Updated 8-18-11 - RESTORE DONE!!!

More than a year later I finished my Frogger. Crap, that took forever!

Got it all back together and the flyback blew! UGH.

So, after the monitor is fixed, this bad boy is ready for the basement.

I basically ended up with four cabinets. One was complete/original but the cab was falling apart/swollen/water-logged, one was jamma'd but complete and the cabinet was all botched and modified, one was a gutted trivia game in a frogger cab, and one was an ikari warriors in a space firebird cab. So, I took the best of what I had to make the best one and have enough to make one more which a fellow collector is picking up.

Things I did:

Repainted all black
Bondo'd as needed
Sanded and painted coin doors
Sanded chrome coin mech plates
sanded and painted black every carriage bolt/screw on the game
New CPO x 2!! (I totally screwed up the CPO the first time I put it on. I had to restrip the CP AGAIN and order a new one. This is the trickiest CPO I have done to date. It's still not perfect, but it's damn close)
New sidearm
New T-Molding
New light fixture
Disassembled and reassembled into new cabinet

It was actually a major pain in the ass. So glad to be done.

Here's a few random photos from the restore:

Wow! I got me some Frogger! This game has eluded me for some time. I know it's not a rare game, but for whatever reason it never comes up on the east coast, I just never see them. Is everyone keeping theirs? Thanks to a local collector pal, Frogger is home. Thanks!

Cabinet is overall solid but a little rough here and there. Just a lot of little dings, etc. on the sides. Black could use a touch up. And, I might throw a kickplate on to cover up the bottom. Overall, it'll look great in the row.

Does anyone make a high-score save for this game??

And, why is it that all of the Frogger's I have ever seen are missing the side art - completely. It's like it was never there. Did they ship a lot of these from the factory without side art? I'm gonna need to order some from Arcade Shop. Is their art good?

Anyways, on the surface, it's such a simple game. An easy concept to grasp but a hard as hell game. An absolute classic, I love me some FROGGER!!

Check it!

Frogger never had any side art. All of them came with just the wood laminate.

I think that the side art cost extra, and most ops just decided to save money by leaving it off. It's not like the art looks super cool or anything.

I picked up a frogger conversion just to flip it as the price was right. Then my kids and girlfriend fell in love with it so i had to hunt down an original cab and everything because if it's a keeper it's gotta be right.Teenage girls crack me up,they get all emo when he gets run over.I would like to snag the high score save kit someday.

I think D_Harris is referring to this. I read somewhere that most if not all Frogger's shipped without sideart. This is why you see no remnants of old sideart. Sideart was offered to the ops for an additional charge. This is along the lines of the Atari cabaret artwork too. None were shipped with it but it was offered to the ops.

I have been waiting for one to be available close by for quite a while now. My 7 yo daughter has been in love with playing the game on Mame since she was about 4. Although I think that style of cab is ugly, because it is fun to play it would be a keeper for me.

Its rare that you see one with original sideart, most didnt have it. FYI, the braze HSS kit will only work with the 18/36 two board set. If you have the 22/44 board it wont work. I have a braze kit in mine, works like a charm.

I've only owned one Frogger machine, and it had the original sideart in near perfect condition. If I ever owned another one, it'd have to have the side art.

Someone must've reproduced the stuff by now?

Arcade shop sells all of the art. Side art, CPO, bezel, and marquee!

My cab was in super nice condition without art. I put reproduction side art, a cpo and bezel on/in the game and it looks awesome. I was questioning the title and the lame look of the bare cab before but now the game looks great in my line up and it actually is fun to play.

Nice score.

Does anyone have a photo of the monitor area with the bezel off???

Looks like my cabinet was hacked to add a new monitor. The monitor is BARELY mounted in there. It's falling off towards the CPO. I need to build some wooden brackets to support it better and am wondering about the angle of the monitor and how the bezel should really fit on the cabinet. Does the bezel go UNDER the CPO at all?? If someone can snap photos of a proper bezel install it would be most helpful!
