My frogger and gyruss keep rebooting on me. They do not share the same circuit.

I plan on addressing both of them this weeked.

Im going to go into first off thinking the 5 volts needs to be adjusted.

On both of these games, becuase i have not looked yet, do either have 5 volt pot adjustments on the boards themselves? Both are running off their original power supplies and i never had any other kind of issue with either. They are pretty solid...they just do random reboots. They are not timed. It is very random.

Most Froggers had a "+5 volt only" switching power supply installed which does indeed have a +5 volt adjustment pot on it. There was a seperate analog +12 volt supply circuit board located next to the +5 volt switching power supply.

Gyruss originally shipped with a shitty switching power supply with a +5v adjustment pot on it. Many operators changed out the shitty switching power supply and stuck in a Peter Chou instead.

Thanks..i will check it out! I havent even slid the games out of their spot and removed the back door yet.

I bet it's just an adjustment. Just remember to use a meter and not mindlessly turn the knob ;)

My frogger would reboot after being on for a few hours totally randomly. It turned out to be heat related. I never found the issue, but try leaving the door off and see if it still does it.

Resetting issues usually are power supply related. Turning up the voltage doesn't always fix it. A worn out power supply will not supply the amperage needed to run the pcb.

I replaced every power supply in the games at work for a variety of reasons. off-brand junk power supplies have sketchy build quality, but they also don't have shutdowns, and when the voltage adjustment goes, they just peg to the max at over even above 6V. you can do a sizable amount of damage this way. this is also a very neglected and extremely important area with games, that's why I made my PSU guide years ago.

I can't vouch for Frogger, but I do know the likes of other Konami games like Track & Field, Gyruss, and Time Pilot all have a major flaw, and that they have a single ground wire running from the harness back to the power supply. inadequate grounds are what create resistance and voltage drops, of which I've seen an entire volt lost on these, and that's also what burns up the edge connector. I added my own wires to the 2 boards to beam back to the power supply in addition to the harness wiring. no more voltage drop, and I can run the power supply lean somewhere between 5.05-5.10V.

I've performed this mod on several games. :) I encourage testing voltage at the chips, but more importantly, dump the crap power supply. it's old and even factory original was not capable of doing what a PowerPro can today.
