Frogger, An Extensive Cabinet Restoration

Really nice job, looking really sharp. Like You said particle board was never perfect to begin with and what you did looks good. Lets see some more pics already. :)

The sideart came out great:

On to the electronics.. The power cord needed replacing -

Instead of tearing into the shrink tubing, I decided to just splice the new cord in, using wire nuts. It will be hidden and if wire nuts are good enough for house wiring, they're good enough for a game.

I trimmed the insulation off of part of the original cord:

then secured the new power cord using the original clamp thing:

and finished it up with wire nuts and tape:

This aluminum box for the power cord was apparently from another game, as the screw holes to install didn't line up right. I positioned it where it needed to be and marked where to drill the new pilot holes in the cabinet:

Here's some before pics of the coin door:

Coin door was stripped down, any rust sanded, whole thing scuffed, and wiped with Naptha. I sprayed it with RustOleum oil based satin out of a gun.

New back doors were cut out of 3/4" pine plywood, primered, then sanded. These were also sprayed satin black (not shown)

I made stops out of 1/2" ply, pretty much how Atari did it, and attached to the upper panel:

Power supply was mostly clean,

but I disassembled it to detail, and sand the wood panel clean. Also, the original fuse holder had green corrosion, so that got replaced.

Looks better:

I just need to clean up the wiring, drill screw holes in the back doors, and take the final pics.

The wires that went to the factory switcher brick were clipped and attached to a replacement switcher. Also, the coin door wires were cut. Plan is to get a 6 pin molex connector with next bob order and terminate the switcher wiring. I should have this thread updated in a couple of weeks.

What are your plans for replacing the coin door 25 cent label? I have this same coin door on mine. I'm not sure what to do for this except maybe have it printed. Has anyone repro'd anything similar?

First thing I did was look on Mylstar's site..I haven't found an NOS piece for this. For now, I'm leaving it as-is, but a new piece would look nice. It would really have to be screened on metal I think. A vinyl decal just wouldn't cut it.

I was just watching a video on Tighe's blog about the faux Nintendo serial number plate he made for the Virtual Boy upright. I know it wouldn't be durable, but it could be reproduced in this same fashion. Maybe if it were placed behind a very thin piece of plexi?
