I need to clean the monitor on my Frogger (original, dedicated cabinet) - as well as get rid of a spider and web. Is there any way to get to the monitor other than by removing the cardboard from the back of the game? I am afraid that if I mess with the monitor bezel, I may not be be able to reattach it as well as it is now. Also, what is the best cleaner for the monitor glass - windex?

Thanks.

Good Luck... you'll need it!

If you figure out an easy way to clean it, please let me know. I also own one, but I'm waiting until I'm ready to resto the game to clean it out, I've heard its that big of a bitch. On mine I couldn't figure it out without removing too many items to justify only a cleaning. LOL, insert one of Phetishs smartass remarks: I bought it from Avid, and a cigar from one of his man parties ended up inside the game!

Since its probably got bodily fluids all over it, I better start from the ground up!

Just remove the cardboard on the back and restaple it back into place. The front plastic can be removed, but by removing the nuts off the bolts from the INSIDE, which can only be accessed by removing the cardboard bezel....

There's an upper rear wood door that's screwed to the back of the cabinet with black Phillips head screws (6 of them I think). Take those screws out and that upper wood door can be removed from the cabinet. The original monitor cardboard bezel is held to the back of the cabinet with flat staples. Take those staples out and throw them away. Now the cardboard monitor bezel can be 'bowed' and slip out the back of the cabinet. Now you can easily reach through and clean the rear of the plexiglass and the face of the monitor tube.

For cleaners use Formula 409, Mean Green, Fantastic, or other common household spray cleaner to get the black gunk off of there. Spray the cleaner on a soft clean towel or rag (never spray directly onto the picture tube cause the cleaner can run down inside the circuit boards) and wipe gently. Now to finish up and remove streaks use common glass cleaners like Windex.

Put the cardboard bezel back in place. Don't staple it back in place though, use thumbtacks instead. Makes it easier when you need to clean again in the future. Now put the upper back door on and tighten the screws.

Ah... thumb tacks... that's a good idea. I typically keep my staplegun handy, but it gets kinda annoying to have to keep pulling the staples
