I'm currently working on a multi project. I was using some blue sure painters tape, until I ran out. There are many angles and sharp corners I'm having to mask, and upon removing the shure tape I got nice clean lines with no bleeding. Now I began using the Frog Tape, which is supposed to have a paint blocker technology. Bullshit. It doesn't stick to the surface long enough to block the paint. I understand that maybe straight lines are best for masking, but Frog Tape is supposed to be the shit. If you have any complicated masking applications I'd advise you to exercise caution.

Maybe I got a bad batch, but it's really pissing me off.

I guess no one here has ever heard of frog tape. Here is a pic of it.

You can find it at Lowe's and there are commercials for it on TV.

In this photo the blue was masked with a regular painters tape from shure. The red was masked with Frog Tape.

Just in case anyone cares, I'd figure I'd warn all those who would shell out the extra money for frog tape. You can see the smooth lines of the blue and the "bleeding" of the red paint.

I could be wrong sense I have never used frog tape but I think it only works with latex water base paints. What type paint were you using? The tape still has to stick good to give a good clean line.

This is spray paint. I believed I used this before on Valspar interior latex paint and the results were similar. The point being is that I have never had trouble with the cheaper painters tape which I've used on multiple surfaces (from latex to spray). I see no advantage to spending more money on Frog Tape thus far.

Thanks for the heads up dude!!!!! You stopped me in my tracks, I was just going to get some today. That stuff really sucks!!!!! Wonder if it will be a class action lawsuit brought against the company????? That stuff sucks doggie doo!!!!!!!

The blue paint was dry- well as dry as spray paint can be in 20 hours. It probably wasn't fully cured though. I did spayed the blue on after only 3 hours after applying the last coat of primer. The other two brands didn't seem to have a problem sticking though- before I ran out of them. Maybe Frog tape has it's specific applications- I picked it up on a whim though after seeing a few commercials and didn't research it. Anyway, my main point is that I've had much better luck with some of the cheaper varieties of "painters" tape. And before Frog Tape came along I got excellent results with other brands.

I agree that Frog Tape sucks ass - I recently painted my garage, and I used FT to mask the ceiling edges, and it sucked. An unacceptable amount of bleeding, and in some areas the tape wouldn't stick at all, but the standard blue tape would.

Awesome. I thought it was maybe my application that was giving me the problems, but it sounds like you used it correctly. I'll stick with the standard painters tape. It's a little strange that the tape seems to be using some sort of new technology, when the standard painters tape works as good or better.

You are correct, in my experience Frog Tape does suck. Its very low adhesion tape meant to come off easy but ultimately it doesn't stick well enough and doesn't block paint like it says it does. I will stick with blue painters tape :)

I dunno guys, Ive used Frog tape for taping off ceilings/trim/etc when painting my walls and it worked AWESOME... no bleeding whatsoever. I can't vouch for spray paints and I can't vouch for if you're cutting the tape for stenciling purposes either (maybe the bleeding protection treatment is only applied to the very edges of the tape or something), but for latex paint & taping off trim/ceilings it's AWESOME.

I must have done something wrong then, because these are the exact conditions I used it under and I was very disappointed.

Huh, I dunno. What I did was apply the tape and then use a small putty knife to make sure it was super flat against the ceiling. I had no problems with peeling it off afterwards, where blue painter's would tear off ceiling paint, tear off the freshly applied wall color, tear down the middle so I had to keep finding a new edge to peel off etc etc... Frog tape went on clean and peeled off clean. Wish I had found it sooner.

FWIW I used Valspar premium and the ceiling and trim had been cured for at least a week prior to application of the Frog Tape.

From that picture it looks more like bleeding mummy wrap than quality tape. :( Thanks for the warning!
