We had a crowd of normal people visit the arcade Friday night, and by normal, I mean not like us. They played 364 total games, distributed as:

After Burner II Deluxe22
*Centipede21
Altered Beast14
Joust14
Super Mario Bros.13
Rampage11
Solar Ride pin11
Dragon's Lair10

Street Fighter II7
Dr Mario6
Discs of Tron Environmental4
Flash pin4
Spy Hunter4
Tempest4
Zaxxon3
Punch-Out!!2
Gauntlet II1
Moon Patrol0
Tron0

I was running a high-score competition on four games, marked with as asterisk (*). Those games received unnaturally high play.

Here's a chart.

Somebody was on the Black Hole pinball every minute of the evening--mostly loaded up with four-player games. This was the biggest test for Black Hole so far, and it performed nearly flawlessly (had to power-cycle once). If you own one, perhaps you will agree that they become upset if you don't pay enough attention to them.

Removing the games involved in the tournament looks like this:

After Burner Deluxe is always a crowd pleaser. There are some real surprises in the data for me. Like, nobody wanted to try Tron? Nobody? Spy Hunter is normally more popular, so that one is odd. The EDOT usually gets more attention just because of its good looks. The Galaga is a cocktail and was in close proximity to Black Hole, so it became furniture as the evening went on, blocking gameplay. Glad to see SMB up there, as this is the first real party for the Red Tent.

Maybe you were wondering the relative gameplay percentage to the almighty Zaxxon, King of the Arcade?

Black Hole is significantly off the chart at 4,533%. I need to recap the sound section on Zaxxon (no explosions) and I'm 100% sure that's why it didn't beat Black Hole.

Fun info. That's a lot of plays, how many people attended?

I would think Centipede would rank similarly even without a tournament. It seems almost as universal as ms pac-man. Seems to get played by both the normies and us.

I think around sixty. We got a little 1/6 barrel keg from my favorite local brewery, and we floated it by 9pm. That was a miscalculation. My buddy ran to the store and picked up a bunch of Coors Light that we just threw in a trash can with some ice, because we're classy. Also had a bartender mixing bourbon drinks, and she went through at least four 1.75s of bourbon.

I agree completely on Centipede.

Are you planning to track this data with each game night or was this a one-off? Recording this over a longer period would probably give more accurate results; since you admitted here it's not very accurate (ie Spy Hunter).

I think I'll keep it going! I just recently got all my coin counters working, so it should be easy going forward.
