Fresno/Madera, CA "Weathered" Games. Why?

http://fresno.craigslist.org/for/1590719036.html

Stories like this make me cringe. Just a shame. Why hold onto these games for close to two years when all you're going to do is let them sit outside in the sun/rain/etc.?

I would love that Super Mario Mushroom World pin, but I'm guessing it doesn't work and probably has water damage inside and out. Probably mouse/bug infestations. Who knows.

Doesn't matter either way, the guy didn't leave any contact info. Maybe it would interest someone who wants parts that are possibly still good.

wow.

nothing more but a waste of machines.
someone to lazy to store properly?
owner didnt have money to store and no idea how to sell them?
so many story options,
sucks all the way around.

This is a scenario assuming the games are badly water/weather damaged where you buy and part these games. Who knows some may still be restorable.

well...

Well From their description, some have stated to warp etc..
Also California as a whole this past month or so has gotten a assload and then some of rain.

That's what I was thinking too. There's been a lot of storms and heatwaves in the past year and a half, but I like that you're optimistic about the games Dan.

But again, the dude didn't leave contact info so it doesn't even matter. Sounds like the guy isn't very smart. Those games are probably going to get hauled away to the dump or just disintegrate to the ground.

one thing i forgot...

One thing I was going to comment on and totally forgot was..
Honest listing..
they came out and said rained on 6 months at least uncovered.
its nice to see a listing like that and clearly say hey. here is what it is and how it was treated instead of (like new) or some other load of bs =)
honesty its nice to see on cl

Yeah, that is a rarity. The worst is no picture, price and/or description.

I love the "Arcade game for sale. Good condition. $1000." listings.

It is fair to note he posted some pictures of the wrecked games and honestly feels they could possibly be salvaged. He says it's "not junk." Who knows?

a friend of mine went by to pickup the pins this evening. He said the cabinets were pretty much oatmeal ina a vvery muddy back yard. Hopefully it was worthit for the parts as he has either both or all 3 of the pins.

I won't buy a machine that I know has spent time outdoors. I'm a real prude that way.

There was an Asteroids available not far from me which was mechanically in really good shape. But someone had left it outside for a few weeks, and it rained little bits of wood every time I ran my hands over the sides. "Oatmeal" is a good description.

Strip the cabinet, sand down & restore? You end up with a great machine. Not willing to do all that? Avoid it like the plague.

That double racing game is salvageable. Just gut everything out, resand, repaint, and convert to an xbox setup. that's all my XBOX cab is.

I would probably go in and strip out the wacky gator. Some parts are really expensive and hard to find for those things...
