Frenzy/Berzerk multi.. interest?

Your original post did say you were making ZZPUs... it sounds like you didn't understand what that implies. If you are attempting to make your own simple Berzerk/Frenzy switchable kit then good luck to you.

Yes.. I had no idea what his did.. thought it was just a multi game add-on as well and that was what it had been called before...

ROM != PCB design. The design is set up to run the ROM. Not the same at all.

Space_cowboy, you're right, if it's not a Spaeth knockoff then more power to him. I'll consider buying one if it's his own work. If it's not his work I won't consider buying one. Karma.

So I ask again, stealing the game designers work is ok, but if someone stole marks work it would be unethical?

Interesting you mention Karma.......................

Just cracks me up that someone comes into your thread accusing you of stealing something from someone that was made by stealing something from someone.

I can see the confusion here guys.. sorry for that.. I shouldn't have called it a zzpu without knowing what that was in the first place. I assumed it was just a multi like any other and probably should have just called it a multi without even referring to his name for it either way... even if his was just that.
I didn't have a Berzerk until yesterday and as soon as I pulled out the board with the pcb's all over it I kinda deduced what Mark must have done previously, even though mine does not have any corrosion on it and it seems like a little overkill unless these are like Omega Races and 99% of them are toasted. Mine should work on a 1000, and not sure on a 1001 as I don't have one to test it on... It won't replace any non-working stuff, just give you both games switcheable on a Berzerk boardset... I'll check into the high-score save and see if it can be added, or if not hopefully just a chip swap on the mainboard if your battery is good.. we'll see..

nope.. not taken that way..

I need to proof read more of my stuff sometimes...

guys why be down on the guy for putting this out there? I know tester and he is one stand up dude with a nice collection, I for sure cannot see him copying Spaeths design, I do know he is pretty handy with a programmer and soldering iron , lay off and see what he comes up with

I actually called it a 'zzpu' in my first post, since changed now.. I can see the confusion some had. but thanks..

You still have that rejuv? might need it actually..

Berzerk Frenzy

I would say make one but don'nt copy Marks board.. I would say it's Marks fault theres people still wanting too make these. Becouse he is very hard too get ahold of and buy something from him.

If it was an easy thing no one else would be interested in making one of these.

Put me down for one!

Mark's design isn't theft, it's a new board. Using a modern design that wasn't possible when Berzerk came out. Believe me, I'm one of the more honest folks around when it comes to IP, and I see no conflicts with this particular product.

No one is saying the design is theft, but you don't think using game roms in a "for sale" product is theft?

You cant start yelling about ip theft when the person you are "protecting" is using another persons ip to make his product.

Don't think I am against either one of them making these products, I have a 48 in 1 and a mame machine. Just don't be two faced about it.

Berzerk and Frenzy are abandoned IP. If Stern were out there protecting them like Namco does Pac then yeah I'd agree with you. Fact is that they don't so I don't see a real problem with it. Mark didn't build those as a business venture - it's a preservationist project just like MAME. Those Stern boardsets are HARD to keep running.

So you agree his 6 pac is theft then?

everyone just needs to chill
you all should be happy that people are makeing these products.
stop acting like girls

i dont understand what tester is making but if is like someone elses product, why make it. but from what i sort of understand it is diffrent than marks. but i know nothing about bezerk or frenzy

To the OP - I think you should make one for yourself and go in a different direction for a future product. I'm not doubting your integrity, but if one is already built, you at least have a design and a schematic to go by, which gives you a leg up in the process.

This is to everyone in general - don't undermine a fellow collector. It's always easier to improve upon an existing idea. If Joe put in the time on project x and sets his price accordingly the next guy in the hobby shouldn't come along use his diagram (not that you are in this case) and undercut or take business away from Joe. Once that starts to happen no one will be inspired to take make new products. Why spend 200 hours starting from scratch, researching and perfecting a product if the next guy can come in and just improve your idea without putting in the wrench time.

Keep in mind I'm no moral authority on anything. If you were to make some bootleg 720 board and a cheap rotary joystick I would be on board and I would have no problem sleeping at night.

IMO, he has every right to pick up the slack if people are wanting these and the people who have done the work to make them arn't selling, regardless of what thier reasons for not doing so might be.

If you think BZ/FZ is a simple eprom switch then you clearly have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.

Hudson, hold on so I can describe in great detail for you and everyone else exactly how ithis will work.....
Actually, maybe its quicker to point you to www.dictionary.com to look up the meaning of the word 'switch'. You do know, there is a mechanical device that shares the same name as 'switch' used as 'to swap' or 'to move' do you not? I do see though how such devices seem magical, or not of us mere mortals to understand for you to be confused on the term, but they are used fairly commonly.. Quit beeing so literal moron. You think I am contemplating sending out some eproms?

There isn't one already built, and to be quite honest on a seperate tangent (where this thread has gone), I see no issue if someone isn't making something anymore, with someone else re-making the wheel if they want to spend that same 200 hours doing so.. Its like saying Archer re-did Rip-Off sideart, so now no-one else should on the chance that perhaps some day he 'may' make another run of it.

Again, you assume Mark is the only person here capable of making a design or schematic from scratch?

Just want to make it clear these will not do what mark's did and fix non-working or heavily corroded zpu's...etc.. You will need a working Berzerk game, and this will give you berzerk/frenzy selectable by a switch.. And for Hudsons benefit, that is a toggle switch.. you will not have to pull out the drawer and do a rom switch every time as he seems to believe is the only method.... lol..
