@Jaydon was last logged in at 9pm today and didn't give us the skinny? C'mon, man!
Ok. Here is what happened.
I messaged the guy yesterday morning to see if we were still meeting. He said that he had a $700 offer that morning and hundreds of messages that he hadn't responded to

. I was expecting him to ask for more money. But surprisingly, he didn't. He did, however, want to change the meeting time from noon to 4:30 because he was working. Apparently, he forgot we had a discussion about making arrangement for someone to be there. Since I really didn't want to get stuck in L.A. traffic going home, I kind of insisted that we meet at noon. I guess he is a young adult that lives at home. So he arranged for his dad to be there to meet me. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed that the kid wasn't going to be there. I had a whole lecture in my head that I was going to give him on how to conduct business, how taking a deposit is making a promise, how your word is your bond, how it's wrong to drive up the price on Facebook Marketplace. You know to expose him to a little ethics, morality, etc. Plus, it would have made me feel good to chew his ass out. Hopefully, he will learn these lessons some day, as he grows up.
I drove to his house and met with his dad. I have to say, the dad is a really cool guy. He knows nothing about arcade games but proceeded to show me a old 67 Camaro he is restoring. The cabinet was covered with a small blanket, outside in the front yard, under a tree with low hanging branches and bird feeders. In other words, the perfect place you would want to store your cabinets

. Wow, it looks pretty rough. You can tell it has been outside for while. The particle board has swollen edges, the wood on the control panel is crumbling away, the CPO is black from all the sun damage, it has missing/cracked/chipped t-molding, the coin door has a lock bar the size of a 65 Buick, the top particle board is puckered, the base edges are swollen and flaking away, the side art on one side is good, but the other side has a chunk missing in the wood that goes through the art, missing 2 leg levelers, dust, dirt, etc. But it
does look complete (minus the back door and levelers). And it does have the K7000 medium resolution chassis. I have no idea the condition of the tube. I was pulling leaves out from under the yoke!! But it doesn't looked necked or cracked. Who knows if the yoke is trashed. So the question I keep thinking, is it worth $600? If I can get the monitor to work, I think it is. But it going to take a lot of work to fix this cabinet both structurally and electronically. But, I'm willing to take the chance on it.
While loading the cabinet, I asked the dad to do me a favor and talk to his son about the deposit. The dad had no idea that his son had accepted a deposit to hold it. He assured me that he would talk to his son and make sure the deposit gets back to
@Khatru311. Sure enough, as I was about to leave, the dad walked up to me and said that he had called the son about it. The son said that the deposit was in a pending status but he would make sure the money got back. I was happy to read that
@Khatru311 did get his money back.
Can I say, when all the drama surrounding this cabinet started, I honestly didn't want anything to do with it. I was perfectly content to just bow out and forget about it. That being said, the main reason I actually stuck through with the purchase was to make sure this game was going to a KLOV member. I know for a fact that if one of us bought it, that member would do whatever they could to try to restore it back to original. Had I known ahead of time that
@Khatru311 had put a deposit on it, I never would have gotten involved. I know
@Khatru311 would do right by the game and it would have turned out beautiful. But as the drama unfolded, it became clear that this seller had proven himself to be unscrupulous. If he was willing to screw over
@Khatru311 and his $300 commitment for my backup offer, he would had done the same thing for
anyone that showed a little more money. If a KLOVer didn't get it, someone off the street would have ended up buying it. They would have probably striped the monitor out and use the tube as target practice. Either that, or someone would buy it to do a consignment deal with Captains Arcade Auctions for a quick buck. This cabinet deserves better than that. Hopefully with me, and the help from members on here, it will get that chance.
