Hi all,

I've got a chance to pick up a free Tempest machine from a friend of mine. Haven't seen it power up, but he says it turns on with monitor issues. He said that water got into the monitor from condensation and shorted it out. Also said that his son tried to fix it and that the screen ended up showing a mirror image as if you were looking at it from the other side (but is now completely dead). Cab looked from what I could tell, but couldn't get a full view of it.

My question... worth the headache? From what I can tell, finding a complete replacement monitor is not something that is easy to come by... but the pricetag is tempting me. Thoughts?

Where are you located? If you don't want it (and you're nearby) I'd take it (as would anyone).

There are plenty of us around who can fix your monitor if you need it (I've fixed several Tempest monitors for other members). If the game board or power supply is bad, there are those here that can fix that, too....

its worth $200-$300 if you don't want to fix it. so its worth the hassle to get it..

Unless you want to keep it, pass it along to someone else who can fix the monitor. If you can't fix the monitor yourself your looking at $100-$300 to fix it..

Just go get it! There should be no question here. In fact, you could easily turn the cab around as-is for at least a couple hundred bucks.

The reason I asked is because I didn't want to go through the trouble if it was going to be a long frustrating costly fix and would have just passed it along to you guys, but based on some of the estimates, looks like I'll be picking it up. Either way, SOMEONE is getting a free Tempest, so don't worry!

I would take free Tempests with bad monitors all day long. I'm sure that I could fit about 10 of them in my garage. Go snap it up before it ends up in a dumpster.
