OK I am just teasing you.....here are shots of a recent Tempest purchase....water damaged beyond hope and a squirrel condo!

I will be selling all the parts soon....I did not test the game as the harness was chewed.

Well, at least he didn't convert it into a Major Havoc.

You didn't even try and save the T-Molding? Or CP latches? Or wheels?

Heh, I just did that to my POS Qbert cabinet a couple days ago. Except my tool of choice was the sawzall.

Disclaimer: for all you haters out there, the Qbert was transplated into a minty new cabinet from Brett.

If a cabinet is not easily restorable to mint condition, then it should be destroyed? I'd offer it for free on Craigslist or whatever before that. It was obviously standing there on its own, supporting its own weight; so it couldn't have been too far gone.

Trust me...I have more detailed photos and this thing was bad...the entire right side was swollen and the inside was full of squirrel bedding and I don't want to know what else. It was truly beyond hope. I want a Tempest and would have tried to fix it if there was a chance. Even the wiring was chewed!

As far as offering it up for free...well that sounds nice on the surface but if you have ever wasted hours waiting for people to show up you will change your opinion. Sad but true...not all games are worth messing with.

Put a sign on it that says "$20" and leave it on your curb overnight. I guarantee it will be gone by tomorrow....

I have a Missile Command in the same shape, I am saving mine to use as a template to scratch build a cabinet and then transplant the guts. All of the wood is 1/8" thicker than it should be do to water and crumbles in your hand if you touch it. Sometimes there is just nothing you can do.

Man those Q*Bert cabs are like a sponge if they get wet. I had done some work to the backdoor on my Q*Bert last fall. The gutted cab has sat in storage over the winter and it survived until the backdoor was leaned against a wall of the shed that allowed water to get at it during a recent rain storm. Now I'm going to be cutting a new door, but at least the main cabinet was okay.

Just put it on the curb for a week or so, along with the Craigslist ad. Take it or leave it; you wouldn't even need to be home.

Unfortunately my neighbors would not appreciate the cabinet sitting on the curb for a week or so.....

I would love to see someone try and fix this cabinet with wood hardener!...you can literally jab any part of the cabinet with you finger and it will go through. It is just not worth trying to use that stuff on an entire cabinet, inside and out when you could scratch build one.

Wood hardener is epoxy resin or something similar. You couldn't poke your finger through it once it is cured. You'd have a tough enough time getting through it with a power drill.

BTW, if the "entire cabinet" was in such a condition that you could poke your finger through it, it wouldn't be able to support its own weight.

Sponges indeed. It is the only cab in the collection that I could not stand. Hence, the beautiful new one.

You do realize how textured the artwork gets as well when they swell up like that. It's a total lost cause and I would not want to pass it on to anyone. Yay! Another turd of a Tempest cabinet gone! The thing that I hate about water logged Atari cabs is that it is sometimes difficult to tell how bad they are in pictures and people try to sell them for top dollar like that which is dishonest. The less there are the better imo but maybe Dave can chime in and bash me for that statement. :D
