I used to have all my games on Free Play. But then, I realized that sticking a quarter in the game is a lot more fun than free play. So now I have a large jar of quarters next to my games and I think coining them up is half the fun.

So do you have your games set to free play or quarter play?

I just got the coin mech working in my DK last night. I personally like popping a quarter in the arcade to play a round, rather than having it set to freeplay.

no free play here esp now that i have my bill changer
its nice i actually bought a game the other day with the dollar bills i had been saving up in my machine
any time i have ones at the end of the day i just feed them into the bill changer (allong with my quarters) it really adds up fast last i checked i had about 50$ in quarters in the machine still

Coin play is not only more exciting, it proves that your machine is 100% maintenanced.

That said, when I have a larger number of people over, I have alligator clips I throw on the coin switch leads and shove a mini pushbutton out the coin return holes for easy coin-up.

Free play modes on many of the games suck. Some sit on the same PRESS START screen, or others keep restarting a free game.

If the game doesn't sit at the same screen on free play I use free play. Dropping a quarter only reminds me of the money I pissed away as a kid heh

That one dude with the free play pcb doohickey to make your P1 button cion up was brilliant. Did he ever bring that invention to fruition? He was pondering a price last I heard.

Tokens! Waiting to eventually finding a cheap narrow change machine, but until then I keep my tokens in a coin bucket and pull some out as I need 'em.

I like the nostalgic response I get from coining up a machine.

Right now mine are on freeplay or have the door unlocked to flip the coin switch. I picked up a change machine down in CA and would like to use quarters but too much money walks off at the end of a night (unintentionally I hope). I'd also wouldn't mind doing tokens but am overwhelmed at the thought of trying to convert over 100 mechs over to tokens... that would take me months of all my free time!!

Free play. The kids would blow through quarters and tokens like its no ones business.

For me it's all about dropping in the quarters. Personally freeplay takes away a big part of the experience. Eventually I will get a change machine, but for now I use ashtrays. I don't smoke but playing arcade games as a kid, I always remember there being ashtrays nearby. I found this cool retro looking 2 foot standing one I keep by my upright cabinets that holds $60 or so of quarters and for my Pac Man cocktail I found a vintage Pacman ashtray. I put felt on the bottom so it can't scratch the glass and people always have a laugh whe they empty out the quarters ans see the bottom. I use freshly minted quarters from the state I grew up in and the state I live in now but I supplement them by polishing up any that are found in the bottom of cabs I have bought.

All pins on freeplay for sure. I like freeplay on the vids because you don't have to hassle with token jams, etc. if guests are visiting. I also want to do away with the keyed locks - I wish someone would tool a lock that was flush and only needed a hex key to open...

I'd have all of my locks "keyed" that way and never have to worry about finding a key. Just enough security for my basement. Easy for me to open but not so easy that anyone could do it (like some of the other non-flush keyless locks I've seen) without a hex key.

All set to take quarters. I don't like setting games to free play. This way when people comes over and sees the games I say 'ya got a quarter?'. Also it's easier this way if I sell a game, I know the coin mechs are all fully operational. Coin up with quarters all the way.

Sorry to admit but the novelty of droppin' quarters is lost on me now. Too much of a PITA to save the change and keep scooping it out. If the game looks nice in attract mode, I just leave it in free play. Of course, Neo Geo just has a button inside the coin door for credits but it's not really "free play".

Open it up and flick the switch for me. Everyone wanted to be the guy with the keys to the arcade games back in the day.
