FREE Parts - RAM Controls

No problem on the RAM. I've got plenty to go around, so I'm glad to help. Nothing like a good game of Space Invaders. I see this game less and less as I see more personal collections. I wonder why that is? It's a great game!!

Dave

Dave, YOU ROCK!!!

no pm sent, thanks for the tube of ram earlier. Space invaders was a big hit at my party on saturday!!!

Hey, it's really NO problem at all. I really enjoy the heck out of the hobby and giving away some freebie reproduction parts is one small way I get to partially repay the community for all the cool deals that have come my way in the last three decades. Pay it forward? LOL

Just remember guys, I'm always willing to help with anything I can.

Game on!!!

Dave

Sure thanks for being so generous with parts. :D

Dave, I just visited your web site, I see some items I need. Im going to place a order as soon as I check all of my asteroids machines.

You have way more items than you did the last time I visited your site. If I can ever find me a Lunar lander, I will be using your parts on that for sure:D

It's been a while since I stopped by your web site. You have expanded quite a bit, but I still don't see any Williams stuff. You could do well reproducing some of the Williams joysticks, particularly Sinistar and Robotron sticks. It looks like you have the technology down with the 720 sticks. It shouldn't take too much to modify the shafts and to get the right color knobs.

Just a thought.....

BTW, Thumbs up for your supporting the hobby with your free stuff giveaways. You rock!

Maybe one of these days, I'll find your posting before everything is gone.

I've been putting most of my focus on Atari reproduction parts, but I have my eyes on a few non-Atari items. I've taken some heat for announcing items and then taking too long, so I've been quietly working on some additional items I intend to release without any warning. :)

Williams joysticks have been an interest for me, but I've got so much on my plate at it is. Just to clarify, when you say Sinistar and Robotron "sticks" are you referring to the shaft/knob or the entire assembly? I would need good samples I could take measurements from which I could also destroy to get at the shaft itself. Were there multiple sizes of Robotron shafts/knobs? BTW, I can color match to any OEM color, so that's a non-issue as long as I have an original to match against.

I was specifically talking about the shaft/knob combination. With Williams shafts the ball was force fit to the top so when I talk about sticks, it means the metal rod and the plastic ball on top.

There are very few Sinistar sticks left out there, but I have a couple of Arch Rivals sticks I could "loan" to you, as long as I could get them back (or replacements) with Sinistar red balls on top. The Arch Rivals sticks are the same size as the Sinistar sticks but came with orange balls on top. The Sinistar sticks came with the standard red balls on top.

The Robotron sticks had a longer shaft (4" vs 3.5") on them and they also had the standard red ball on top. I have a couple of these longer sticks I could "loan" out as long as I get replacements back. I may want a couple with the Joust yellow though as I am one of the freaks that like the 4" sticks on Multi-Williams control panels.

Another combination would be the Joust optical sticks. These are very hard to find, but the same sticks were used in MotorRace USA. The Joust sticks came with yellow and blue balls, MotorRace came with red balls.

Here is a picture "borrowed" from Wu that shows the sticks. Williams games predominantly used Wico leaf switches (except the optical ones). If you look at the light blue #7 (Joust blue) stick, it has a 4" shaft. The yellow #6 (Joust yellow) stick has a 3.5" shaft.

So, do the sticks in this picture represent OEM parts or second-source/reproduction parts made by another company?

Are the 3.5" or the 4" sticks more sought after?

What I see pictured would be easy to reproduce - nothing difficult about them. All I would need is original parts to color match against and measure up. It's likely that any samples I get would be destroyed in the process of removing ball from shaft.

I would need some hard numbers from people to determine which combination of ball/shaft would be most sought after. Williams games are something I have paid very little attention to with regard to reproduction parts, so I need some guidance.

The light yellow/blue colors - were these standard Wico colors or something specific to Williams?

I know that the Williams opto sticks (Sinistar, Arch Rivals....Bubbles?) have different shafts/balls... I would definitely need originals to color sample.

I'll look into this a little more as time permits. They're well within my capabilities, but I won't commit to them yet. As everyone knows, I've got a bazillion other projects either in process or on the backburner right now. If I can squeeze these relatively simple projects in between others AND there is enough demand for them, I'll see about getting them done sooner rather than later.

The 4" Robotron Sticks with the red tops, Would be the most wanted. I found a pair of NOS, and you dont want to know what I paid for them.
If you could make the sticks and the leaf switches, you would sell a ton of them!!

Daviea,

What is the link to your website? Can't seem to find it in your Sig nor your profile. Thanks!

The 4" with the red ball tops are Robotron and are highly sought after. The last pair I bought cost $35 on EBay. I have seen them go for more.

The next most sought after is a matter of opinion. To me they would be 4" shafts for Wico bases (same as Robotron) with the Joust yellow & blue tops (1 of each) for a Multi-Williams (so you can play Robotron with 4" sticks and have the Joust colors too). Others may say the 3.5" with Joust colors.

The light yellow/blue colors - were these standard Wico colors or something specific to Williams?

Good question. I know Wu has some in the Joust colors that were Wico standard, so my guess is that these would be fairly standard (if not very often used, except for Joust).

I know that the Williams opto sticks (Sinistar, Arch Rivals....Bubbles?) have different shafts/balls... I would definitely need originals to color sample.

There are at least two opto shaft styles. Sinistar & Arch Rivals are interchangeable. Joust & MotorRace seem to be interchangeable. I will know for sure when my Joust optos show up. Sinistar & MotorRace are not interchangeable.

I do not have access to a Bubbles with the opto joystick, so I don't know which style the shaft is, or if it is yet a third style.

I'll look into this a little more as time permits. They're well within my capabilities, but I won't commit to them yet. Depending on how hard it is to put the balls on the shafts, it may be useful to recreate several of the shaft styles and several of the ball tops and allow people to mix and match rather that build up a stock of any particular type. There may alo be a market for the ball tops by themselves. People that have workable shafts with damaged ball tops may want to be able to buy replacements and put them on themselves.

For myself, I know that a 4" yellow stick (Wico base - i.e. Robotron) and a couple of the Sinistar red sticks would be of interest.

Making the shafts and ball tops will be easy enough. If these are part of the Wico joystick assemblies, I'm already on the case.

I'll need to know which colors, though. So far, it seems that the red, light yellow and light blue are the ones being focused on. Interest in any other colors I should be aware of?

I'll work on the 49-way opto sticks separately.

Dave

How hard would it be to repro the rubber grommet and leafswitches for those wico sticks? The bases are also getting hard to find in good shape as well, at least the 4 way bases.

Thumbs up to dave!!! He makes the hooby great....if i need more parts im buying from him...Cant wait to get my trackball!!!! Any intrest in making burgertime silksreened bezals??
I know a ton of guys on the website, that would buy those in a heartbeat...Inclunding myself....We can never find the glass bezals...its always a underlay
