I've been restoring my Berzerk along with 9 other cabs over the last few weeks and finally got to try out this texture material I purchased for the job. Its like real wet drywall compound loaded with sand. Pour some in a paint tray, load up a roller and texture away.

I practiced a bit to get the right amount on the cab, screw ups can be scraped right off. I like the results but will never use the rest of it. So, if you happen to have a Berzerk and need to repaint it and close to Palos Park IL, come on by!

I'll also be driving to Indy and Ohio this weekend, so if you're along the way I'll drag it along.

How does the process work exactly? You put on the compound and then paint a few coats of black over it? I guess you cannot sand between coats? Any other tips would be appreciated.

I bought the material at Sherwin Williams, but I imagine something similar can be found at most DIY stores. Used for texturing drywall before painting. I do not have an extra wiring harness that I am aware of, extra pcb sets perhaps. To use the product you prep and prime the cabinet. Once dry I applied it with a standard roller. I found that the "first" roll had too much material, so I had a scrap of cardboard to take the first one. Second roll gave the right amount of texture, not too much. If you screw up and put too much on have a metal scraper on hand and just take it off, easy. Once dry I used a plastic scraper, perpendicular to the cab surface, to knock off the major high spots and any pieces that would come off easily. Then a very light once over with sand paper. Brush it off and then two coats of oil base black. Looks good to me. If it looks unfinished on the sides, that's the high spots reflecting the flash/light. Its pitch black in person.

That is my neighbors back yard behind the ghetto booth. They don't mind as it keeps the overspray off their windows at least :)

I have since used my vast technical experience to solve the wind issues with the booth. Bungee cord + garbage can. Keeps the corners secure and in place even in the wind.

Same stuff I used. I ended up sending half of my extra sand to Ully in Germany. It's a rough and ugly finish if you ask me, but it's original.
