Hey Jeff, Haunted House is actually Midway not Williams although they make a "Spooks" game with a similar theme.. dont know if your still looking or how much you have for budget but the last one that was shown on eBay did not sell even after someone placed one bid on it for 2600 dollars. So i can provide you with the lead to the sellers auction. Maybe you can negotiate a price with him if interested and if still available. Its in Pennsylvania.

Thanks for the headsup about it being a Midway game. :beerchug:

I actually *just* bought Phet's Spooks and will hopefully be working on it within the next couple weeks. I wanted either game but I've been bit by the EM bug so I'd love to get both now. :)

That eBay Haunted House is gorgeous! Way above what I would like to currently spend but then again I'm not looking for perfect. Maybe after looking for a while I'll say screw it and do something crazy.

Thanks again for the headsups!

Jeff

Any idea what I should offer on a mostly working(8 track system condition unknown but it sounds like the parts are there) Haunted House?

Not sure of the paint condition but that isn't too big a deal to me since I can repaint it.

I just honestly don't know where to start with this and I'd like to not offend the guy right off the bat. :)

Hey Jeff, I understand your situation.. Let me give you some data here that ive recorded and maybe you'll be able to determine what to do. First off, know your budget and don't break the bank. There are plenty of Haunted Houses out there since the game is still popular. And the seller should have an idea what he would like to get for his game to start with otherwise it might be pointless to negotiate a reasonable price with the guy. So here is what I have..

Out of nine games that have sold on eBay between 2012 to present.
The lowest paid price was 152.50
The highest paid price was 2500.00
The current average price on HH is 1336.50 with the market direction rising.
The last HH sale occurred in November of 2015.

Now, when I go back and look at those units that sold and the ones close to the conditions that you wish to be near (Complete & Mostly Working With Cosmetic Issues) those prices ranged between 450.00 - 650.00. In my book I consider that an Average to Good condition machine.

The current average price indicates what most people would feel comfortable paying up too on any given day for a decent condition HH. I like to look at this as a middle of the road price. A game under this average price is not without faults either in exterior condition or mechanical condition or both but they are generally complete, well taken care of, clean and don't need very much if anything at all. I don't see many rifle gun games as a whole selling beyond 1300 dollars.

Ive seen a few other nice looking HH's than the one that sold for 2500 dollars on eBay but I have yet to see anyone willing to pay much more than that. There has been no "Restored" HH's to come to eBay as of yet since 2012.

As to your situation.. I would not make any offer until I had a firm understanding what the seller has in mind on a starting price. Because if you make the offer first he's going to say No that's too little. Make him give you the price first then negotiate if hes within range. If his starting price is way off what I have recorded other people have paid for a HH... Walk away. The guy is looking for pie in the sky. I know that's a hard thing to do when you want something so bad but sometimes a man has to know his limits. Good Luck. I hope that helps.

Thanks Burt6666 , Luckyman, and sq6970!

I was "feeling" like $500 wouldn't be a terrible offer so thanks for kinda confirming that.

Thanks for the offer Luckyman but I'm not giving up hope for finding one that needs some love yet. I do appreciate the lead though. :beerchug:

And somehow I think I managed to scare the person off that had the semi-project HH. I didn't even mention a price and basically was being honest with him that I had no idea what to offer. Surprisingly he came back with "it's more than I'm willing to spend". Huhsat? :(

Oh well... this hunt is still young so on it goes. :)

I understand. but your asking to buy the most sought after EM gun game out there... so to find one , even a project is gonna cost ya... its like the discs of tron of EM games no what I mean?

Heard back from the person again and he was extremely helpful and went through a list of things to watch out for with HH. His "make me sell it" price is $1300. Sounds like this is a really good base machine too.

Considering I'm into a Spooks for $850(with shipping) I don't feel terrible with that price.

Thanks again guys. :beerchug:

HH hunter...

I have a buddy with a complete restored 100% working one not sure how much he would sell it for but im sure 2k somewhere around there

I was just wondering if your buddy still had his HH and if he was will to sell? 2K for a restored machine seems to be somewhere in my ball park but I'm in the UK so shipping would have to be considered. I have a contact here in the UK that could sort carriage and I was hoping to fund my dream in total of around 2.5k

cheers for any info...

Still can't believe someone tossed this in the trash, this is just how I found it. I've since found a rifle, coin door, and 8-track player and it somewhat works but needs some TLC for sure.

I played this machine at the age of 9 or 10 in an arcade at the end of Skegness pier in the late 70''s. Even as a kid I was always into spooky stuff so loved this game from moment I set eyes on it. Never seen it since in the UK. Turned fifty last week and need this game in my life.....and then I see folk getting this from the trash in the US....utterly heartbreaking.

Keeping my fingers crossed... as long as the current plan holds true I should be picking up a Haunted House this weekend! :drive:

Will be sure to post pictures and details once the game is here safe and sound... :D

Overall the game is in good physical shape and "mostly" working.

This past week I installed the 8-track player since it wasn't installed when I picked the game up. Two of the four sounds worked initially and after a bit of trouble shooting(and cleaning) the other two sounds started working too!

The monster works as it should. The one cat works as it should while the other cat is acting very shy(as in it won't pop up). The witch works... ish. She will only pop up about 6 inches.

Hoping to get everything working 100% this weekend. After that I want to enjoy the game! Next spring/summer I may start "refurbishing" the cabinet paint. I *HATE* totally stripping paint off since I like patina. BUT, the white on this game definitely needs help. I'm thinking I will make stencils for the WHITE ONLY. The other colors are mostly fine so a little touch up here and there will probably be enough for me.

So happy I got lucky finding this! And to top it off the person I picked it up from has an AWESOME EM collection! Soo many neat games. He really opened my eyes on what an "arcade collection" can be. :)

And I'll be sure to update this thread when I make progress with the game.

Bravo ! You'll get plenty of enjoyment out of that im sure : ) You might want to try the gentle approach with the yellowing tar issue.. That might come off with a little magic eraser or grease lightning. That white should come back some without upsetting the patina.
