LaserDisc movie called THE WIZARD. Another addition to my game room wall! Can you name all the video games that the characters represent on teh cover.(Mario Bros is obvious) not really retro but close!

That movie also suffered greatly from the overall kid movie syndrome in which adult characters seem willing to commit rather serious crimes and take incredible risks over relatively trivial amounts of money.

Like the bounty hunter chasing them across half the country and wrecking his vehicle for a teeny reward.

The guy (farmer, trucker, can't recall), who gave them a ride pulling them over and robbing them when he saw they had like $60 on them.

Then even the nintendo stuff was weird, with Super Mario 3 being seemingly scored on how far you got rather than score. With game action not matching dialog. The big power glove scene when the power glove wasn't even a Nintendo product, but a Mattel one.

God, look at the soundtrack for the movie

"You Don't Get Much" by BoDeans
"Leavin' On Your Mind" by Patsy Cline
"Red River" by BoDeans
"(You've Got It) The Right Stuff" by New Kids On The Block
"Send Me An Angel '89" by Real Life
"Hangin' Tough" by New Kids On The Block
"Nowhere To Run" by Martha & The Vandellas
"I Live By The Groove" by Paul Carrack
"Don't Be Cruel" by Bobby Brown
"My Way" by Paul Anka
"I Found My Way" by Sally Dworsky

Regardless of the negativity here, and the fact that I loathed this movie when it came out considering my age at the time, you guys are being overly critical.

This horrible movie is a landmark of the times and should be treasured. Like A William Shatner computer commercial or a cereal with Pac Man shapes in it that leads to cardiac arrest....

Embrace the pop culture and ignore the idiot storyline, incongruity, and commercialism.

I did all that for my son to see Madagascar 3 (if you see the movie you'll know what I mean).

This was a bad movie but is IS and will remain a timeline bullet on videogame history.

And Jenny Lewis, Fred's love interest in the movie, became an outstanding musician. Her cover of the Travelling Wilbury's Handle with Care is ridiculously awesome.

I remember seeing it in the theater when I was in 3rd grade. I wanted SMB3 so bad after seeing that but it didn't come out in the US for like another 6 months (or maybe just seemed that way). I also wanted the Power Glove and got one for Christmas that year. Man was it a disappointment... As a kid I LOVED that movie.

His other on-screen girlfriend is doing pretty well, too!

Cool! The Wizard was basically one big advertisement for Nintendo - esp. Super Mario Bros 3 (which was coming out shortly after). I always thought the Power Glove looked great and was fun to wear around. Shame that it didn't really work all that well ..

Thanks Buzz Killington..

Haha I was about to say the same thing. I remember begging for a power glove for Christmas and finally getting one. I also remember the first time I played punch out with it. I thought to myself maybe my sensors aren't perfectly set? Did i put the long ass code in right? Finally I ended playing it the only way possible and that's by holding it sideways and using the controls on the side. Shortly after I cut the cord off of it and made a bad ass bionic wolverine glove.
