FOUND: Major Havoc $10,000 (up to)

For $10k, I would sell mine. I have had it for 30+ years. When I got it, It still had a working red flyback. so that tells you how little it was played. Zero burn on the amp monitor, original board, marquee, side art, and cp overlay.

Monitor was fully rebuilt 2 years ago(with all know upgrades done to it to make it reliable). 100% original with the possible exception of flyback(I might have had a nos wintron put in).

My terms would be fly out to see it and play it. If you want it, pay for it, and then we can ship it. If you don't want to fly, I can take pics and make a video of it. I would consider delivering it for $500, but obviously after it was paid for.

I would post pics, but I have not taken any of it as I never thought of selling it. It's currently buried by about 10 games right now. But if your serious, I can make an effort to get some.

I dont question the legitimacy of his intentions.
That being said, the way the post reads is more screwed up than a soup sandwich.
Personally if I were seeking a high caliber game (or any game for that matter) I would locate the game first and negotiate the terms of the deal second. I think he would get a better response that way.
I.E. just state what your looking for. You can discuss terms after you decide you've found what your looking for.

BTW: Keeping it at the top with a free bump.

Agreed, the Writing was a little confusing, but understandable.

This sounds reasonable, first serious offer made :)

Not sure why everyone is getting hung up on the $10K price. He stated "up to", to me would mean if the game was serial number one all original home use only perfect in every way. Sounds like he really wants the game but I doubt very seriously that he is going to pay that kind of money for the game and every little defect knocks the price down to reality.

The last MH I seen that was all original was listed at 14k. Not sure if it sold but you don't see the original MH much. The conversions have sold for 4K (not saying I would pay that) so I don't think he is too far off the mark at what some people are paying for this title. I know the roller controller (repro) was selling on eBay for 500 so people could have the right controller on their tempest conversions. Pretty sick prices.

I sold an original Major Havoc back door sheet from a Tempest to Major Havoc to Tetris conversion on eBay for $100..... for a piece a paper. But that is priceless for someone that is restoring an original machine. $100 is a small price on a machine potentially 100 times more valuable restored correctly.

I think the point being lost in this thread is not whether or not the OP was serious, or the (subjective) value of the game...it was the post itself was just all over the place (and made it seem really sketchy). At different points, it was hard to tell if he was buying or selling, and putting your ceiling price right up front makes NO negotiating sense at all. But to each their own. If he is serious, I think he can easily find a willing seller (or ten) at $10K. Best of luck.

This statement is confusing, no?

"Will only sell to experienced user, no n00bs."

Simple misspeak. He just meant he'll only sell his $10k to an experienced person who wants to pay him one MH for it.

I understood what he meant. (But I understand American. Maybe it got lost in translation to Canuckian, eh.) ;)

(kidding)

i would like to hear the back story that leads folks to have such a strong affinity for Major Havoc.

Let's hear a story that explains the passions and compulsions toward the love for this game.

The OPs post isn't very clear (some of his comments make it seem like he is selling when it is clearly intended as a WTB).

That being said - why is everyone on KLOV bothered/concerned over how the OP wants to spend his money? That is his business - and I imagine if you don't think a game is worth XYZ then it is because you don't have the game to sell him. So just back off and let the OP buy... or sell... or whatever he wants to do. Lol.

People are so critical of how others want to spend their money (or what a game is worth...) Until the day comes when they sell a game and all of a sudden a high market price is "relevant" and "reality" and not crazy.

I bet if we cut out every thread in KLOV that price policed or just generally complained about the price of arcade things (or explaining why supply is low and prices are high) we could reduce KLOV threads and posts by 85%.

(End rant).

I completely agree and people are free to spend their money in any way they'd like. As long as the rest of the community realizes that a one-time purchase does NOT necessarily constitute a market shift. Arcade games are not commodities, where the price of one dictates the price of all. Each is a unique instance and should be valued based on the circumstances (condition, location, demand, nostalgia, etc.) surrounding that instance.

Again (Free bump), I wish the OP the best of luck in his search. Obviously he is very aware that money talks (or at least gets people talking). :)

major

as a side note
I was in s. calif in the mid 80's and bought/sold about 5 dedicated versions at various times, (purch them at 50, 100, 150 range, sold them for 300 to 400 ea.) and thought I was making money lol

The tiny arcade in my small one stop-light town had a dedicated Major Havoc. I never had money, so I would wake up early Saturday Mornings and go to every vending machine and telephone to get money people had left in the change receptacles. I would typically get 3 - 4 dollars each Saturday. I would go to the arcade and play Major Havoc and pretty much only Major Havoc. I was good, really good. The operator would yell at me and tell me I was cheating because I could play for a half hour or longer on a single quarter. Other kids in town would gather around and watch me play. I have a huge love of Major Havoc. I have always wanted a dedicated one. I think its worth the money people pay.

Love hearing stuff like this.

And let's keep in mind, it's UP TO $10,000. I thought I had made at least that much clear despite my crappy OP.

If more than one person comes forward, it's not likely to go that high, but I am buying this game one way or another. And I'll pay top dollar for top condition.

That sounds pretty clear to me :). Anyone still have an issue?

Now someone get this good man a nice MH.

good story! thanks for sharing.

Anyone else have a story to share about their affinity for it?
How about the Original Poster of the topic?
