Guys, 2 weeks or so ago I came across a LL that had been converted to an asteroids in the wild. I left a message with the owner seeing if he may want to trade or sell it. I got no responce and don't have the time right now to keep up the hunt.

It is in Fresno, CA at the OH! WOW! Nickel Arcade.

It sure would be nice for someone to get it and change it back to a LL :)

I LOVE seeing classics in the wild......
Haven't seen one in a while, but when I do, I always drop a quarter.......

Just FYI. It is most likely, especially given your location, that this machine came this way from the factory. Lunar Lander wasn't a "hot" seller, so when they went to start making asteroids machines, they put the asteroids components on cabinets that still had the lunar lander art still on the sides. A look at the ID tag on the back of the cabinet will tell the story. If it is a low serial number, then that is what happened, and that also makes the game more desirable in my book. I sure would like to have one. It is estimated that the first 100 Asteroids were shipped out like this...

I would agree with this. I know member EagleTG has an Asteroids with the same Lunar Lander cabinet. If I get over there, I will have to check out the serial #.

Thanks for the info guys. That makes good sense. All I know is as soon as I saw it I new I wanted it.

Here are some shots of the S# plate.

Thoughts?

Fun Fun,

Yep, a Lunar Lander Serial # for sure. I bet the serial #'s on the boards are different (if Atari even made them the same in the first place).

I still hold to the notion that this was an Asteroids that was put in a LL cabinet by Atari when it was deployed.

Yep. Here's mine, complete with awesome Willis control panel overlay. I have a picture of the serial number plate SOMEWHERE. I know it starts with AST. I'm going to keep digging for it. Will post back if I find it.

They only made about 4000 LLs and it was the last 150 that were simply built into Asteroids.

It sounds like the S# range is in the ballpark for this to be true. ......

Darn.... guess I need to go back and ask to see the inside so I can get some shots of the game board
