found a bug (possibly by design) in the forum message facility

If you try to post any text containing the letters CD followed by either a forward or back slash (/ or \) you receive the following message:

private message test said:

POST to /private.php not supported.

or

public forum post said:

It appears as if the forum software is attempting to prevent using a change directory command but I would expect a better error handler. I've seen this before but this was the first time I have had a short enough message to dissect the issue. This came about with the phrase "CD(slash)DVD".

It also does that with certain query strings too. It sucks when you hit it and I have to use tinyURL or something like that to get around it.

Last time I hit this wall I thought the forums were broken. By the time I got back to posting I had typed in a different message so the problem went away. I tried to PM mclemore about it but his inbox is full as usual.

Glad to see it's not just me. Seems like a simple setting change or a patch should be available from vbulletin.

The error message occurs when the firewall sees something it doesn't like. The post (in such case) never evens gets to the forum server. As such, no mods/updates to vbulletin are applicable.

I've slowly added exceptions to the firewall to keep it from blocking as many messages. It helps, but the problem will never likely go away. Right now it tends to happen with some foreign characters too.

I just got a msg from the servers saying my inbox filled up and xray2 tried to send me a single message. The only other time this ever happened with me was with FMonk and Kumpy trying to send me pm the morning of Feb 26 when we moved to vbulletin...

Quite the drama queen, since 'as usual' and 'first time it happened to xray2' is not exactly the same thing...

Well, I never stated that I had sent multiple messages on whatever day it was earlier this week. I also tried to post in the help section but was blocked (see logs). There were similar issues before the upgrade, and immediately after (during??) as well with pm delivery.

I am also still waiting for a response to my query about reducing the 60 second delay between posts to something more reasonable for those of us who can type at a reasonable speed. I realize the delay was inserted to prevent spam but it is certainly not saving system resources. More often then not, I find myself hitting the submit post button multiple times while waiting for the expiration to elapse as do others I have spoken with.

Can we split the difference and live with a 30 second enforced delay?
