Summary: Forum upgrades coming along, avatars will have to be uploaded again.
The forum upgrade is coming along nicely. I've spent a lot of hours the last 2 weeks working on it.
At this point, messages and pm have imported into the new system nicely. And it is undisputedly a better system than the 5 year old technology we are running here now.
One thing that isn't being imported are users' avatars. Everyone will have to re-upload them when we move to the new system. There are a variety of reasons for this, but suffice it to say this is the simplest way. If you like your avatar but don't have a copy of it, this is a wonderful time to save a copy so you can reupload it.
Things to do before the forums get upgraded:
1. more testing and minor tweaking in a whole variety of areas.
2. change password and email features still need to be written (new acct feature is already done)
3. link redirect work. I'd like to save external links to messages. I'm using a different directory structure for the new forums...
4. evaluating one or two 'surprise' features to see if we can get them in at this time.
The way I'm setting up the forums will allow us to upgrade them painlessly and automatically once or twice a year instead of the current process which is a large labor intensive job that happens twice a decade.
