Dear Mr. Do!,

Please accept my most sincere apology for overlooking you in every arcade, restaurant, and rec room since I first saw you in 1982. I have thought long and hard about what happened and I realize how very disappointed you must have been when I dropped my quarter in everyone else's slot but yours.

I am really sorry for creating the situation which made you feel inadequate and not worthy of my attention. You see at the time I was a 12 year old boy in search of his manhood and could not risk being seen spending time with man dressed in a clown suit that hung out in a psychedelic box.

Recently a fellow klover encoraged me to give you a try and I can't believe what I've been missing. The game is brightly colored, quick, fun, and challenging. I have become a big fan of yours Mr. Do! and I welcome you into my top 25 list of best arcade games. I can't believe that I walked by and turned up my nose at your game so many times.

I understand that it might be difficult for you to accept my apology but hope that this "formal apology" will help. It is impossible to return to 1982 and throw a few quarters your way, but I feel as though I have to Do! something, so from know on, whenever I see an old man dressed up like a clown I'll flip him a quarter and whisper: "watch out for falling apples".

Viva la Mr. Do!

Blah. Dig Dug is still a better game. (Marginally, because it ramps up pretty quick, and forces you to develop ornate patterns). Now the next three in the series are rad.

Personally, I have always preferred Do! Run Run!. And while it may shame me to admit this, I never really understood the gameplay of Mr. Do!.

Go ahead, you may all now laugh at me in unison.

I never heard of this game until I got into the hobby and so I've never actually heard someone say the name of it in person. Is it pronounced mr "doh" or mr "dew"?

I have to disagree, dig dug is a simple game, where Do! Is a deep game. Do you collect the letters, find the diamond, get all the cherries in one swoop, chain reactions using the monsters after getting the item in the center of the screen.

DD is very repetitive in comparison, really they shouldn't be compared at all.

Exactly right...I always found Dig Dug quite boring. There is so much less going on...

The ability to push the apples around, shoot more than 2 inches, and turn monsters into apples also greatly deepen the game.

Seconded - I did the same thing until I got hooked on Mr. Do! in MAME.

Its nice to see you have admitted your mistake:) I used to love this game on the Colecovision could play it forever. I need to spend some more time at John's house getting back into form.

Agreed. I always preferred Dig Dug when I was younger. But I also never played Mr Do until recent years. It's actually quite cool and yes it has a lot more going on. I have to say I still prefer the characters in Dig Dug though but game play I believe is better in Mr Do. I play it now and Mr Do's Castle from time to time just because it's on the 60-in-1 so not sure how close it is to the original.

There's more to Mr. Do, yes. The graphics aren't as cool. But mainly the game play of Do seems written for those who like puzzles. I don't.

Yeah, underrated game for sure. I love mine. And it can get pretty darn hard after 7 or 8 boards when it cranks up.

I found one in decent shape in an original white universal cab. Think I'm gonna have to hold on to it :)

Ha ha, awesome. Mr. Do! was the first arcade game that I owned. I get the feeling that Mr. Do! is used to not getting as much love, because it's not common for people to walk in and say, "Oh boy, Mr. Do!" Some people who do recognize it will sometimes make the [arguably pedestrian] comment that Dig Dug is better.

The beauty of Do! is that it can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it. It's easy enough for beginners to focus on getting the cherries and fending off the occasional bad guy. More advanced players can focus more on strategy, mastery of the powerball, and balancing score optimization with pure survival. If you really understand how to play, Mr. Do! has great replay value.

Consider yourself lucky. I've been looking for one for a long time. I'm actually considering giving up and looking for a cabaret. Getting rid of my dedicated CT was the #1 thing I regret since I got in this hobby.
