What is it with you clowns and Multicades?? The more I play them, the more I love MAME!!!!

As I mentioned a few months ago, I have a friend who has like 50 machines as well as a 60-in-1 in a Galaga cab. I mentioned that in Centipede and Millipede that when you kill the spider, the score you get for killing it is displayed BACKWARDS. 300 is 003, 600 is 006 and 900 is 009. Same for Millipede (1200 is 0021). If that is not bad enough, we wee playing Mr. Do last night, and When I got my "EXTRA" guy, the graphics are corrupt!! The goofball that is waving the white flag when you bounce the ball and hit him has a DETACHED ARM!! Not only that, the intermissions after screens 3,6,9 etc are chopped up and scroll BACKWARDS!! Plus all the copyright messages have been REMOVED!!! How can this crap be acceptable?? Give me a decent PC, with either an arcade monitor or my 21" NEC Multisync Super Brite ANY DAY!!! Even vector games look almost authentic with the Super Brite turned on. Urinate on that XXX-in-1 crap.

i mean i think its really cool having original arcade mechines, and i have 3 but i could never afford to own every game id want to play and mame goes a long way.

i think the biggest thing giving mame a bad name is some of the horrible ugly cabs people build with CP's the size of my dinner table with 100's of buttons across them and then some crappy art slapped all over it

mines just in an old stern cab with 2 joysticks and 6 buttons+start per player

You can do so much more with a Mame cab... Daphne (Dragons Lair, Space Ace) than you can with the 60-in-1, and the emulation/sound is a MILLION times better.

Mame is cool! I have a Altered Beast Mame, and a QBert Mame. Both cool to play. Planning on a 3rd Mame in a vertical monitor setup Twin Eagle cab. Even though the Mame machines, Im still looking for my faves from my childhood though. Total arcades setups is 11 and counting.

We'll all end up with MAME on our PCs at some point in time in the future. However, while I can't say anything regarding multicade cabinets, I do see why people like the single game original cabinets. Something about the luxury of owning something dedicated to a single game, the game play interface, the look of the original monitor, the coin mechs, and the history of any particular machine in being a survivor.

However, if true variety is your thing, then MAME is where it's at. I fire them up for my kids to play on the PC - good fun.

I'm not a 60 in 1 xxxin 1 or a MAME guy. I like the classics in original form. As for why I might prefer a xxx in 1 over a traditional MAME set up? Well for me it would be easier. I have a jamma cab or two around so the multi boards are simply plug and play. I'm sure setting up MAME isn't that hard but it takes more effort than I care to put in. Especially since I would only use MAME to try a game I never played before.

I think a good dos mame setup with a nice front-end can be a lot of work.

XXXX in 1 IS MAME!

The cost of a XXXX in 1 or a gamebox 450 in 1 all setup in a nice package is hard to beat. Seriously a gamebox is only $190. You can't even build your own mame setup for less than that. Both can be modified to add your own roms

My MAME cab is great! I used a real arcade cabinet for it. Some crappy game called Quantum?? It sucked, so I was happy to through all of the guts in the trash. I had to cut the sides a little so I could fit my cp on there, though. That made it a little harder.

:)

All the 60 in 1 board IS mame, a VERY VERY old version of mame. The graphics are marginal on those boards, Millipede is completely unplayable for me on those. Running a newer version of mame and a decent graphics card running direct draw will make the classics look MUCH, MUCH better. In some cases, the games may actually look better than "original" on a nice crt monitor. The one thing that I really like about the multiboards is the attract mode and how it goes through all the games, one by one, it also keeps track of credits in the main menu and this is a bit beyond (on PURPOSE) normal flavors of mame.
Selling a cab running mame is a bit more complicated than just sticking a multiboard in it.

Very familiar with Arcade Controls.... I do not own a Mame cab, I have three dedicated cabs (I live in a small apartment). I do have Mame, Daphne and the rest installed on the PC I am typing this on. After playing it, and playing the 60-in-1, Just wondered why someone would waste the money. It can not be "to play them like I remember them" as that 60-in-1 is worse than playing games on a smart phone.

I have consider the xxx-1 many times, and everytime I ve looked into it. I ask myself why? Why not just put the computer inside the cab, and use a computer monitor, or a ArcadeVGA. A lot cheaper, and I can do more with a computer.

Looks like we have a troll!

I know I for one have fond memories of my youth of booting up a pc inside a box, turning a computer monitor on, and pushing a button to rack up 50 credits.

Like I said.... I DO OT OWN A MAME CABIET... I own a dedicated Ms. Pac-Man, Dual monitor Playchoice 10, and a Final Blow. I live in a small apartment, otherwise would have more. I just have to laugh how most collectors do not like Mame, but they say a 60-in-1 is OK... 60-in-1s RUN MAME... Not very good.... but it **IS** Mame, with corrupt graphics, bad sound, and missing copyright notices. How can these boards mess something up, that was NEVER a problem in Mame to begin with?? I could see Joe Schmo buying one for his basement, but for a collector or enthusiast to settle for second rate junk??!!

I am deeply passionate about arcade games. I do not have the space or the resources for the hundreds of machines I would like to have. When I play games, I want to have the most authentic experience I can get. Thus I have some dedicated machines. Backwards scores, corrupt graphics horrible sounds and the missing Midway logo in Ms. Pac-Man is not acceptable in my book. I feel like I am playing the Atari 8-bit or Commodore 64 version of the game. Mame on a PC at least LOOKS, SOUNDS and DISPLAYS the way it should. Ok, maybe Tron or a few others do not play as good without the correct controllers, but there are THOUSANDS of others that play fine and more than make up for it. How many people have Astro Fighter, Astro Invader, Thief, Star Fire, Baseball Stars 1 and 2, Super Basketball, 10 Yard Fight, Robot Bowl, Championship Baseball and so amny more ALL in their collection? I played each a LOT as a kid, but would not spend hundreds of dollars on each one even if I **DID** have the space. Mame is GREAT for an occasional trip down memory lane.

i love mame. i get to play so many games for cheap and get that authentic arcade feel

your kind of limited with spinners, dials, steering wheels, throttles, ect but pretty much any 2D game that uses a 2-4-8 way joysticks and buttons works fine. ou can even go as far as to wire your coin mech into the key board encoder and actually run a coin op mame very easily.

i mean we cant all own a SS chevelle but you can damn sure throw a hoped up big block in an old malibu, give it a paint job and have alot of fun

I actually took the coin door and mech off my Ms. Pac for a while and connected it to the encoder in my old HotRod SE. I have since put it back in the Ms. Pac-Machine, and sold the Hot Rod and bot an X-Arcade Tankstick with the Trackball... Life is GOOD!!!!

Yeah, basically have room for one more upright in my mini gameroom. I think I am going to do a vertical MAME in a previously defiled Galaga cabinet with the original 19" monitor. My netbook will fit right in the coin door.
