i have a Force 2006 standup machine that sometimes takes a few shut down/boot ups for it to finally pass the "DISK BOOT PROBLEM, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" like a HDD problem. right before that it says "Media test failure, check cable".

is this a HDD going bad? i have checked all connectors and all looks fine. after it finally passes that then it works fine for the remainder.

also, i have 2009.5 upgrade coming and i haven't done this before. is there just a DVD/CD and a security chip in the kit? is there a site explaining what to use and how to use it?

thanks in advance

ok read the Merit website and all it says is to plug in a DVD via centronix cable but how is this done? i have a centronix and the othe end is a USB connection....is this the correct way to use this?

also, says make it you primary boot...is this done in the bois?

All you need to do is install a dvd drive into the secondary ide port of your motherboard. I've never tried a usb drive so I don't know if this will work. The centronix cable they are referring to has an ide and power connector on the other end. Just make sure the machine is powered down when connecting and disconnecting your connections. You should not have to mess with your CMOS settings. It will detect the drive and ask you to agree to their terms and conditions and you're off.

However if you have a faulty hard drive you will be doing this again before long anyway. Assuming that the install will even be successful.

so, basically you don't have to actually use the centronix, just use on that port(ide drive cable). ok thanks....i'll try this!

CALL MERIT! The # will probably be on a label on the cabinet somewhere. They've got a great customer support team, and will have you do some testing, then tell you what the problem is.

well, i was planning on it before threading but this is for home use and didn't know if they would frown upon a 2nd hand purchasing kinda thing.

on the HDD, could i buy a new one and throw it in while installing the update 2009.5, or it a specific type HDD? if so, what's a good size to buy?

thanks in advance, appreciate the help
