Do you share the space between games and a car?

I'm moving in January and we will finally have our own garage. There isn't really anywhere in the house that will work out for my games, but there is a nice two car garage. We are down to one car at the moment, and I really want to use the space for my car. It is a finished garage, which is nice.

How well does it work out for those of you sharing the space?

We just moved and the 2-car garage is filled with boxes/crap right now.

But looking into the garage, I have games lined up on the left side. Work bench/garbage cans on the right side. Shelves will be on the back wall. We plan on parking one of our cars since we're expecting daughter #2 in soon and it's just easier for my wife to get in and out since you have to walk down to the street where cars are parked.

If you are going to park a car in a garage, its pointless to have a game room there. Cars are tough, they can survive outside.

yeah don't mess this one up, get all of the garcade space you can get, I'll chip in $5 for a car cover to keep the rain off of it.

Sure cars are tough... I've just always wanted to take care of my car as best I can. This is my first brand new car, too...

Cars and games are my two favorite things. I would actually enjoy being able to stare at my car while playing games.

Someones priorities are out of line here it seems.

:D

I got a new car a couple years ago and have parked it outside since. My Garcade once took only 1/2 of my garage and then it eventually took over everything. Play on one side, repair/random junk on the other. My wife eventually stopped nagging me.

I just moved in here and I have a 2 car garage. I only have 1 car and I have plenty enough room for the car, a workbench, and maybe 6 or 7 games (whenever I finally get that many haha).

I'd keep my car outside but I'm so sick of scraping ice off it and it freezing in the winter mornings haha, there's plenty enough space for all of it to co-exist. Well until my arcade completely takes over the garage.

My games take up about 1/4 of the garage and the 3 project cars take up the rest. It works out fine and thank God for Nintendo cabs with the wheels.

not a classic 1965 or so is it?
only reason i would store in garage.

if not plastic fairs well in the rain.
arcades do not.

It's not a current classic, but one day I'm sure it will be considered one. I bet most would argue that point, since it's a generational thing. It's a 2012 Subaru WRX. I tend to enjoy older cars, but I like newer ones for the reliability.

Some could argue the car is meant for tough conditions... it is, after all, pretty much a rally car.

:D

Hobby Monogamy, eh?

In a few years I intend to get another 1967 Camaro, to replace the one I sold, and that will end up taking garage space.

I keep 1-3 games i'm working on in the garage along with an 85' 2 door. I'll say in the winter with the snow blower there's little room in my single car garage. The garage has always had atleast 1 game in there but not normally working (not for entertaining).

Also having such little room in there causes working on the machines to be a bit tricky and a slight pain.

Garcade

I have an arcade and because i ran out of room i am also building a garcade. Got rid of my harley davidson roadking 2009 flhrc (at my mother n laws across the street garage)and park the cars in the driveway. I am not a car nut like before, i have no time. Plus i dont keep my cars long anymore- why go crazy waxing and babying a car so the next person can enjoy it. No more for me. Cars outside= more nice games inside.

I'm curious what you guys are doing about the Summer heat. I know in Texas I would die in my garage in the summer and the Tempest would crap itself if I ran it even at night.

If you have the space build a Car port.
If you have the money build a Huge tool shed in the back..

Sanding on wood where your car is near or parked or will park is not a good Idea. Those wood particles tend to stick to to a static charge car.
Strong paint strippers, Spray painting an arcade machine.. Not recommend near a car..

I do not plan on keeping cars in my garage, just my sons race car. It is not attached to the house so I see no point, it's about 20 feet from the house. Right now I have all my games in there but when I am done witht he house and move in I will be moving some of the games in the house. I just took everything out of my garage that is not arcade related for my sons birthday party and kind of like all the room.

We've lived in our house now gong on 17 years. The garage was a place I always thought I would use to work on my car(s). It was unfinished, old and detached from the house. It ended up being a storage place for all things unwanted in the house for 16.5 of those years. This year we finally decided to renovate the place and turn it into an arcade since all of the cars we would've worked on have long since left the family. Needless to say, best decision so far. The space is actually being used and it's gotten rid of so much junk in the process I can't begin to explain how happy I am. Whatever your decision make sure you're dedicated to one or the other. Once you lose the battle either way it will become a junk collecting nightmare if not kept in check.

Fortunately it doesn't get as hot as Texas down here. I am curious how the garage will handle the weather, though. Our climate is a bit dryer compared to a bit further west where my parents are, but their garage stays fairly cool.

I haven't done a restore that in depth yet, and not sure I would have the patience to actually do so.

Unless the weather is terrible, I would probably just work on the slab out front where there is better ventilation anyway.
