For Sale (Video Games & Pinball) - Thread Prefixes.

We are running a little test at the moment. Now if you post in the Video game or Pinball "For Sale" sections you have to select one of the following prefixes.

FS Game -- For Sale Game(s)
FS Misc -- For Sale Misc (parts, pcbs, manuals, etc.)
FS Last Call -- If you are thinking of parting something out, follow the Last Call process (2 weeks, etc.) and tag your thread 'Last Call'.
MMAO -- Make Me An Offer (might or might not be serious about selling. A better option for rare and special items than commodity items for sure.)
FT -- For Trade
Free -- Free items (shipping probably isn't free)

Please include [Location] at end of the title line, at least for cabinets/games.

Great idea... :001_sbiggrin:

Maybe consider disabling the option for "no prefix" for conformity's sake...other than that, this is an awesome addition ;)

When you go and make a post, it starts with a 'no prefix' option, but if you try to post the msg it stops you since you didn't select a prefix. So prefix isn't optional on those 2 sections. You see some threads now without prefixes because those were older messages that got replied to. Soon, all of page 1 will show prefixes.

Can you edit thread titles yet? I haven't tried selling much recently. That would be a big help, for people who constantly sell stuff, they could change it when they've sold things or get new stuff to sell.

Thanks! I assumed because it listed a "no prefix" option it would allow it...should have tested my theory before making the suggestion ;)
Definitely a welcomed change :D

I like it! Especially the location (I've been quietly lobbying for that for a while).
If we could search the FS forums based on state that would also be cool.
[To post in the FS forum, you must have entered your state in your profile and then the search page could use it (or something) ]
Like someone else pointed out in another thread, shipping on games can be a big deal, so that makes location a big deal too :)

cheers

Not sure I like PCB's being lumped into Misc. In fact, I'd recommend these prefixes:

FS GAME
FS PCB
FS ART
FS OTHER
instead of MISC

(Put those four into the WTB section, too.)

Then do FT, FREE, & LAST CALL.

I don't much care for the MMAO, but if you're going to do it, then inform your mods to move any post without a price listed to that section, regardless of whether someone is asking for offers. No price means it's not really 100% for sale

Then, put that poor mirror down, son.

I say leave well enough alone.

Not everyone falls into the ignorant category and needs the obvious spelled out:

FS: Ms. Pac-Man upright in B'ham, AL
<changed to>
FS GAME: Ms. Pac-Man upright in B'ham, AL

FS: Working Ms. Pac-Man PCB
<changed to>
FS PCB: Working Ms. Pac-Man PCB

But you may fall into that .001 percent

I think this new system is just clutter. I really doesn't do anything to differentiate any threads from others. It just adds extra boilerplate text for my eyes to parse, and I have been finding it hard to just ignore it to get to the actual content of the thread title. And if you make the tags different colors it's just going to look like Froot Loops.

As I parse the thread titles, I don't think "Hmmm, 'FS: Game'. Let's see what game is for sale. Oh, it's gameroom classics, not interested in that game. Next. Oh, another game for sale, what is it? Q*bert, I'm interested in that"

I'd like to see "gameroom classics" as quick as I can so I can say "Nope, next. Q*bert, I'm looking for one of those or maybe just some parts. I'll click on it and see what he's got."

In my opinion, the for sale section just doesn't need to be further organized than a basic thread listing because it will just make things harder to find.

Some people don't like change, and that's understandable. Especially at our age...

New system rocks, thanks Greg!

Perhaps it would be easier to differentiate the threads if they had different color prefixes:

FS GAME
FS PCB
FS ART

ETC.

Then it would be easier to quickly find only the threads in the category you want...

I just don't see the value.

When I'm looking for something, I'm scanning with a keyword in mind, usually a game name or a model number (e.g. "Gravitar", "Amplifone, "6100", "4900"). If I'm looking for a Gravitar CPO and someone is selling a PCB and NOS overlay as a package deal, how does it get categorized? "FS PCB" or "FS ART"? If my search is "Gravitar ART", I might miss it if it's listed as "FS PCB: gravitar plus overlay", so I might as well just search "Gravitar" and consider all the results.

I'm with Bungy on this one.

Bright colors make my eyes hurty. Moar wordses also fail.

To me, it just looks like a precursor to creating even more smaller segmented FS sections, like potentially divvying it up into GAME, ART, ETC. And that idea me NO rikey. The pinball split, however, was spot on and long overdue.
