We'll looking to add the ability to add entries for parts to VAPS...for parts wanted and parts for sale. They would be kept separate from the main census part of VAPS.

Parts could be tagged to a particular game (most will hopefully), or untagged if the item isn't really specific to one game.

Reports could be sorted by 'newest items' first, or by 'category', etc.

Here is a proposed list of categories:
---

Electronics: ICs and Components
EM: Misc parts
Gameroom: Art, Decor, Posters, & Neon
Music: Misc parts
Pinball: Back glass
Pinball: Manuals
Pinball: Misc parts
Pinball: Playfields and playfield parts
Scales: Misc parts
Slots: Misc parts
Test Equipment, Tools and Supplies
Trade Stims: Misc parts
Vending: Misc parts
Videogames: Coin Doors
Videogames: Control Panels, CP Overlays and Controls
Videogames: Manuals
Videogames: Marquees
Videogames: Misc parts
Videogames: Monitors and parts (tagged to one game)
Videogames: Monitor Bezels and Cocktail Underlays
Videogames: PCBs
Videogames: Side art
Videogames: T-molding

Comments appreciated.

If you browse to the VAPs db entry, will it show a list of all parts/games for sale/wanted for that particular machine? Id love to see a wiki like setting for users to add repair and restoration tips.

So basically, instead of the old way - where you just added a game as "Wanted: Pac-Man" and then put in the comments what exactly you wanted (full cab, pcb, etc), you can now say "Wanted: Pac-Man: Marquee" or "For Sale: Galaga: Rapid Fire Chip"?

Would the game page have a link that said something like "There are xxx number of parts currently For Sale and xxx number of parts currently Wanted by our members."? Or would it list them individually?

If you added something to your For Sale or Wanted list, would it automatically inform you which members currently had that item on their opposite list? Could it be set up to auto-email you if someone posted a For Sale item that you had on your Wanted list?

There would be multiple ways to access parts games/wanted data, including from an individual game or by data entered, for example.

As far as an repair/restoration wiki system. It's been high on the interest list for a while. It would happen faster if someone is familiar (or takes the time to look) at Mediawiki and its extensions. In particular, access control extensions and tying the system into our existing username database system.

The game page wouldn't list wants/for sale parts individually, but would link to them. And yes the system would be more structured, which would make it much easier for seeing custom reports (ie: show me all marquees wanted by collectors).

As far as auto-email...that would be a wish list item and likely not happen the first version out...
