Well...after about 4 months I'm finally ready to slide Gorf into the arcade for some serious arcade playing! I thought some of you Gorf fans out there would like to see some photos of this game which came to me under some pretty unusual circumstances. I'm sure I'll never own a 'NOS game out of the original box' but coming close sure is pretty cool. You can read the story about this game here (written when I detailed out the Pac-Man):

http://wowway.com/~ookpik72/story.html

For a game that sat so long obviously there are many problems that come along with it. I had to replace the film cap on the chassis to get the 4600 monitor to stop blinking, there were 3 bad RAM chips on one of the RAM boards, 2 bad chips on the pattern board causing some serious graphical issues, a blown cap on the amp board knocking out the sound/speech, a TON of cracked solder joints, on and on. Once the game was functional I began the slow process of disassembling the game and cleaning it all up. Here are some pictures of the final results - Long Live Gorf!!!

Alan

very nice job. i also restored my Gorf. i added some stars (splattered paint from a spray can) to the top, back, and sides. i also hand made a part to hold a bulb in the joystick. works like a charm!

Great looking game there! What I line up....is that Sea Wolf, Asteroids Deluxe, Gorf and Space Invaders??? 4 of my all time fav's right there!

Something interesting...I noticed your bezel retaining bracket has bump outs in it...where mine is smooth. Hmmmmm. That looks very cool on your game. Do you happen to know the serial number of yours?

Wow man, that is the score of a lifetime! They all look great! Congrats on such an awesome pickup(and learning how to fix them), and thank you for posting this story.

Thanks! I'm only 933,586 points behind the current worlds record holder - Look out...here I come!.....;).

Since not playing Gorf since the mid 1980's...I forgot how much fun this game really is...classic 'arcade sounds' for sure...

Well if you need some gameplay tips let me know...

Sweet. You've inspired me to go work on my Gorf.

BTW - the person that picked out the 4 machines in a later picture - I'm never playing you in "Name that arcade game". The SI has like 4 inches showing, haha, but I think you're correct!

OMG - it works!!!!!!!!

Adjusted power supply voltages down to "reasonable" (from 5.60 and 12.75) and the Gorfian Empire showed up!

I'm so freaking happy.

This site is awesome, even if it was just a motivational thing for me on this project.

So I have to go clean her up and put all the parts back together.

Did I mention how happy I was? Did I mention I bought it for $60???

When I think of GORF I always get that sad feeling
Why??

In one of the arcades that I was at often, there were all those mid 80's cabs, Shinobi, Ninja warriors 3 screen, Out Run, Space Harrier, Heavyweight Champ and more.
And yes there was this lonely GORF cab in the corner, Why it was still there I dunno cause it never got any love, why it was still there in 88 is still a big mistery to me, but it was there and i knew it from the time I was younger, I did give the poor thing some love from time to time, so it didn't feel allone :)

GORF is Special, never mess with Gorf!!

Sorry for the minor-threadjack.

I've got two Gorf cabinets. #135?8 (the ? is an 8 or a 9 I think) does not have the dimples. #11122 does have the dimples.

FYI.

LOL! :)......that was me......yes.....a closet dork like many of us. I love Sea Wolf...that would be one to add to the collection for sure if it ever comes up...

Hmmmmmm......could be random. Mine is serial # 17,XXX something.....and a friend of mine has one under 1,000...both without bumps. I dig those bumps and they show up in the flyer....cool stuff....
