Football Sunday in Galaxy Blue

Yikes, sorry man!

Not gonna lie, we game collectors are a niche crowd. My ex wife hated the games, my current wife loves them. It's all a damn crapshoot.

For years I've had the gameroom up for family to play on holidays, and usually it's just me or my kids out there. I'm 54 and they are still "fun" to me, I don't get how others have "gotten too old" for them.

Let's see, she started with Ms Pac, then Dr. Mario, then Qbert. She played all of those games about one time each. Then she wanted a Theater of Magic after playing it at the POF. Looked for a TOM, but could only find an Arabian Nights (same designer) so I bought that instead. She never played it so I sold that to fund five years of pinball purchases. I then had to sell all my pins to fund a down payment on this lake house. Everything spent a year in storage, and then when we moved here, this room was literally designed to be dedicated to these machines, with her blessing. But once I got them in here, she's never liked it. We just had a discussion about it again this weekend. She's basically saying "I thought you were gonna turn that Arcade into more of a family friendly place." I said "what are you talking about? We've got games, bl carpet, sweet lighting, music, a beautiful booth I just built and a wonderful granite wet bar with full back bar. There's a dual basketball hoop in addition to arcade games, what else do I have to do?" She said "well I thought there would be less games and more couches and sitting areas and places to eat" and I'm like "what the hell do you think the booth i built is for?" and she's like "yeah but that's not really what I was thinking. I was thinking of something more elegant." It literally doesn't matter what I do I will never make this woman happy. And now her and my oldest boy gang up on me with what the direction of the game room should be going forward. He wants a pool table, she wants seating and all but 2 games gone.

This makes me sad.

So people can sit and stare at each other? I guess she wants to have a bar?

I had a friend with a pool table in college. That was used for about a year before it just became a poker table. My family would love your setup. I'm not sure how to fix this, but you've created a great space. Maybe include her in decor? I'm not sure how to make an 'elegant' arcade, maybe have her show you pics of what she is thinking?

Wow. 6 months ago I never would have imagined the collections people had put together. Now I'm I imagining one of my own.

I'll pass on football especially vikings. Pretty sure they stopped playing at 41-0 vs giants. I know did.

Still unbelievable. How do you have a team with Randy Moss, Cris Carter, Robert Smith, and Daunte Culpepper and not score any points?

Getting family buy-in is difficult for sure.

When I was going through ideas for the new version of my space, I made sure that my wife had her say in the furniture, made sure she had a place to put her drink, charge her device while she lounges on the couch. Multiple TVs helps too as she can watch her shows and YouTube even if I have something else up on the other screens.

Unless a spouse is as obsessed by the hobby as we are, you're always going to be justifying the space and cost of it all. At least mine is just the garage, I can't imagine what it would be like trying to defend 700+ sq/ft of living space in the house, that would be a rough one.

I feel ya. My youngest had a sleepover in the basement over the weekend, and they didn't even turn the games on!!

I've noticed the young peeps do tend to engage more with games that have unique controls, like driving games, flight sticks, spinners, once I showed my daughter and her friends how to play Hypersports they were loving mashing the buttons.

She has the whole rest of the house to do whatever she wants and she's gotta try and mess with your 1 room? Makes no sense.

It defies reason.

At any rate we are going to get our first game this week. I took my family to Starcade in St Paul last week. First time for my wife but the kids always love it.

Last night I asked my daughter what a second game could be. Figured Super Mario would be her answer as it always was before. Was surprised with DDR. Said we'll that's a big one and I'll ask your mom. Bigger shock was she was in agreement. I may need to change my searches.

I'm sure that's a revelation to kids used to playing games on phones.

My kids grew up thinking all kids had arcade games. My daughter was so excited to meet someone at school who said their dad had one. She went to their house and it was an A1U. My daughter said nothing.

This is why I don't complain about the 100+ potted plants my wife has all over the house and outside. That's her hobby and she spends a lot of time and money on it. To be fair, she's good at it and I think it makes the place look really nice, I just keep my mouth shut and let her do her thing.

I know sure as shit that when I was married I didn't pick out a single couch, curtain or rug. I was fine with that and she stayed out of my 1 room.

Now I have the whole house and life is so much better. :)
