Turned on my Food Fight cocktail, and left it running for about 20 min.

Popped in a quarter, and Charlie Chuck wasn't moving around so well. He didn't want to go downward (only a little), and he only chucked food every other press of the button.

Then, I smelled something musty. A little more heat coming out of the cabinet than normal.

I open it up, and check the boardset, which seemed to be where the heat was coming from. Nothing hot to the touch; just the one biggest chip on the board seemed to be warm. Blew dust off everything, re-connected the harness. Popped in another quarter: Charlie now runs around and throws just fine.

Anything you're aware of on the PCB which would both get warmer than normal and affect the controls, given a certain condition?

I actually used a large hole saw and cut a hole in the metal cage. Then mounted a fan on the cage. Since then, have had no heat issues. FYI, mine is an upright.

Getting extra air to the PCB is a good idea; that could only help.

But I'm not going to cut the cage `cause there were only ~100 of these cocktails built.

Can you put a heat sink on the chip?

Along with a fan I would think that sould work.

A few of my Ms Pac chips have them right on top of the chip but I don't know what size your ship is. I've checked these chips compared to others with my infrared thermometer and they do run cooler.
