Food Fight won't save settings/hi-scores - battery location?

I guess there's no actual battery on the pcb or A/R II board like Bally games?

What do I need to replace to get the game to save hi-scores and settings such as no attract sound?

EDIT: btw, voltages are present on the A/R board, albeit a bit high. -24.5vdc, +24.5vdc, 12.5vdc at the -22, +22, and 10.3 test points respectively - and voltage on pcb is 4.99vdc.

Thanks, I think you're going to have to dumb that down a little for me.

Do I just need one, and do you happen to know the location on the pcb?
I sure hope it's socketed, and not soldered. :)

It (should) be socketed...your board uses one. I do not know the location off the top of my head. I'm pretty sure the games test mode tests this chip and will give an error if bad. I don't have a manual handy, but it'll tell you the code.

The power up screen shows the nvram tests ok, but I'll run the full test in the test menu options and see what happens.

That is the NVRAM chip...strange. Does it save...sometimes? Maybe a flaky IC socket. Try re-seating the chip.

This is weird - the dips are set to freeplay, but the freeplay doesn't come up when I power on. I still need to manually credit at the coin door.

RAM and NVRAM tests show good at power-up, the game NEVER keeps hi-scores, settings, etc.
I didn't completely remove the 8 nvram chips, they're so damn close together, but I pried them up a smidge and pushed them back down into the sockets.

Any suggestions?

There's only one NVRAM chip......not eight:)
