I picked up a Food Fight Upright a while ago and it seems someone tried to install a regular 8 way joystick in place of the gimble. They didn't change any of the wiring. They hooked up the current wiring to each microswitch of the joystick. When I got the game I also bought a rebuilt gimble joystick. I hooked the wiring up to the joystick according to the manual and tried the game. What happens is that game begins to act funny. If push the joystick in the direction I want to go the eyes look that way but he wont move. The game will also jump in and out of the test menu. If I disconnect the wiring the game acts fine but I have no joystick control. I am thinking that the problem might be the D/A converter chip on the main board. Maybe the micro switches damaged the chip. Also I tried calibrating the joystick several times, no changes in the way the game acts.
