Today, I ordered an oak cocktail cabinet kit from Arcade Depot for my MAME project. I have an X-Arcade tankstick (2-player) I'd like to mount using some folding shelf brackets on the long side of the cab, so I can fold away the controls when not in use. Something like this:

I am reasonably sure this will do the trick, but what concerns me is these brackets obviously are meant to go on a wall, not a piece of furniture, and it says they must be mounted on wooden studs with 16" centers. Of course, these brackets are certified to support up to 750 lbs., and I don't expect to put anywhere near that much pressure on them. My controller weighs only about 20 lbs.
I don't want these brackets to crack the side of my cabinet when I put weight on them. I don't expect it to be a problem, but I figure I'd better get a second opinion. I'm not particularly handy, and high school shop class was a long time ago. If the cab is too weak, maybe I can reinforce the inside with some 2x4's or metal plates?
