I'ts arching about 10" up from the flyback.Little purple spark coming throught he wire. Can I just cut it and shrink tube it?Maybe just tape it.

With the power off, clean that area of the wire with 99% isopropyl rubbing alcohol on a rag.

Let dry which should only take a few seconds.

Now carefully glob on and build up a layer about 1/8" thick or more of clear silicone glue over the affected area. Let dry/cure for 24 hours and it'll be fine.

DO NOT CUT/SPLICE THIS WIRE! It's carrying 24,000 volts! Electrical tape and heat shrink tubing are not made for this application.

If the tube is still charged and you have a pinhole in that wire, you may get zapped even with the power off. You can either discharge the tube or wear rubber or leather gloves when cleaning off the wire.

The key is to make sure the wire is nice and clean in the affected area so the glue can stick properly.

I had an anode wire do that because there was loads and loads of mouse urine on it. I did what Ken said except after I cleaned it I couldn't see any damage or burned area so I powered it back up and no more arc. There probably was some microscopic hole/flaw but I couldn't find it to even put the goop on it so in my case it just cleaning the pee solved it. ;)

That's very possible too. Sometimes a buildup of dust/dirt along with a tad bit of moisture makes a conductive path. Simply cleaning the wire will help.

this is what always worries me when I stick my hand in an operating monitor to adjust or check b+ Cause if there is a crack or hole in the anode wire and you don't see it, you would just have to get close to the anode wire with your arm or hand and you would probably get zapped. I usually discharge and clean and inspect the anode wires of all the monitors I plan on sticking my hand into.

I was always under the impression (especially after watching the randy fromm dvds) That the charge in the monitor cant get out of the anode hole after the power is off? Meaning its NOT traveling BACK to the flyback from the anode hole when power is off.?
