So I accidently snapped the stem of the fly back on a k7000 that leads to the HOT heatsink while doing a cap kit. I ahven't plugged the chassis back in yet. Did I just kill the flyback?

Here is a pic

Thx,

I would replace it. It looks like the case broke and the epoxy is exposed. It may arc. It's a old white knob K7000 flyback. I'm sure it already has cracks around the pots and more than likely focus problems.

Test first. Replace if you have issues. Don't fix what's not (known to be) broke yet.

I don't drink the 'replace all white knob flybacks' kool-aid. Yes, lots of them fail. But not all of them. I have several flys with white knobs in my arcade and they are working just fine.

Agreed. I'm in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" boat. However, this came from a load of games that were sitting in storage for 6+ years, and many of the games had monitor failures after I picked them up and powered them on for a prolonged period of time.

Despite the monitor having a great picture, the caps were original and physically looked horrible, so I capped it. We'll see if the fly survived.

i had plenty with the stems broken and still worked fine.

Yeah that stem breaks all the time. The bigger issue is that you have a white knob flyback which is prone to problems. Most say replace all of them. If you don't mind getting more life and changing it out later, just leave it in but know that these are often lower life.
