LOL, know this seems funny...
I picked up this Nintendo Unisystem today. Guy said monitor had been recapped, but when he turned it on, there was some MagicSmoke(tm) that emanated from somewhere. He turned it off, then listed it for sale.
I figured it was worth spending 100$ on. I was right! I get it home, remove the corroded to hell AA alkaline batteries, turn it on, everything powers up, and it's Tengen Tetris. Monitor looks fantastic. SCORE!!!
Fidlle around with the cab a bit, leaving it running...some buttons on CP aren't working..okay..that should be an easy fix. What's that smell? Walk around to the back of the cabinet. Cover for the flyback is on the cabinet floor, fly is exposed. It's leaking out the "top", or did so recently, and smells pretty dang bad....but the monitor is working and looks great.
Oooookay.....
I'm lost. I figured this entire chassis was going to be a lost cause from what he told me, but I'm guessing I need to replace this flyback. I'm about 99% sure this is a Sanyo EZ-20 but I can't find the ID label on the chassis. Any other place I can verify which model it is, and is a flyback replacement something a total soldering noob should even contemplate doing, or do I get someone else to do it? : P
