Darren, just want to say thanks - I've been digging into this again and you're correct. That said I'm wondering if the board still goes by the proper cycles if you just flat out write out certain data to a certain address. It doesn't look like it takes much other than possibly setting a low or high on one particular line to manually enable a chip (port).
Next time I'm out in the garage I'll have to do some testing and/or bust out the logic analyzer again.
