I wouldn't be surprised if some of that stuff still worked after drying it out and cleaning, but man, what a mess. The floods they've been having are pretty brutal, I feel sorry for everyone having to deal with it. This is obviously a sad story because we love games, but this collection is just a blip compared to the total damage. :(

Oh the horror. Man, as long as the owner(s) are safe, that's what matters, but I would be devastated if my collection and prized possessions were washed away.

With alot of time and persistence, most of that stuff can be cleaned and restored. Yeah it sucks, but at least he didnt lose a 1/2 million dollar arcade in a fire, that thread was so depressing.

Game and watches are such hardy little things, I bet most of those could be cleaned and rescued.

So far, the death toll in the Australian floods is at least 20. Which is not good. But a whole lot worse are the Brazil floods, where the death toll is approaching 700.

Our town floods pretty bad every few years. Back in '07 my wife's family moved in with us for a few weeks after their house flooded... I got an SNES and subwoofer out of it... both worked after being cleaned.

Flooding sucks. I don't live in a flood plain, and I don't ever plan to. You can research before you move, so it kind of bothers me when people around here are surprised after their house gets 6 feet of water in it.

That being said... that really sucks. I'm trying to collect Game & Watch games right now, so seeing that many suffer, sucks. I would still buy them wet... but very cheap if I did.

Storms like this are pretty hard to call in the flood plain... Not really talking a neighborhood or even a town... I think you can research all you like, but it can still happen.

"The floods so far have cost twenty lives, with grave fears for dozens more still reported missing. To give you an idea of the scale of the disaster, late last week the total area of the state of Queensland lying underwater was larger than that of Germany and France put together."

Yeah, I know it can still happen, I'm not talking about "it will never happen here, so move here" but more of "that area has flooded plenty of times before, why did you move there?" There are two rivers that meet in my town, and flooding is a regular occurance. Taking that in to account, I would never purchase a home in an area that has flooded before. There is a website you can type an address in to and it will give you one of two options, low risk or high risk.

The house I grew up in has only flooded once, and it was more of a man made flood. We live at the foot of a hill, and the town reservoir was up on top of it. It broke and flooded my neighborhood. Since then, our town has flooded about three more times (usually once every 7 years) and my house hasn't come close to being touched. That being said, I know it can flood just about anywhere.
