Flipper drag wear fix

I bought this overlay decal for the fix off ebay, do Ijust clean area and apply or sand to bare wood and apply? I guess what Iam asking is is it ok to have it higher then the playfield and do you have to mylar over it? Someone advise, thanks.Thanks

I would clean the area really well with Naptha and apply over the damage. That way if you ever sell the game someone could remove the decal and repair if they chose to. Sanding to bare wood would ruin the playfield permanently. It shouldn't be substantially higher than the playfield than a piece of mylar near the slingshot or something.
 
If you look at the sticker where it says freeway and lit value those three words were worn off by the flipper wear, everything else "designed by steve ritchie" is all still there and in good shape. So should I cut just what I need or apply the whole decal? Thanks

Also, if this isn't reverse printed, I would throw a piece of thin mylar over it as well....
