is it worth trying to clean them up? can you actually get all the black off without spending too much time? or is it better to just buy a new set (something like $20) and not mess with it?

ETA: i should add this is for a TAF, so the $20 is for one short and three regular sized bats.

It depends. They are not too expensive and if they are in any way mangled, may as well buy new ones. But I can say that I successfully cleaned up some white ones with a Magic Eraser wetted with alcohol. Follow it with a little Novus 2 and they look amazing.

Yeah, you could argue that for the price of new ones it wasn't worth the effort. But I was sitting on the couch watching the tube so I figured I may as well see if I could salvage them. I was pleasantly surprised.

OK, so assuming i want to try to clean them (i may try the stangbat method and do it while watching a movie or something :)), i had a look at removing them.

in a display of my continuing newbness, i can't see how to loosen the bat shaft.

the attached picture shows the underside. the white circle is the bat shaft. i tried loosening the nut in the blue circle but that did nothing. tried loosening the allen-head bolt in the red circle, same deal. those two seem to be the only things pinching the shaft in the piece of metal, so i'm kinda stumped.

so, how do i actually release the bat shaft on this beast?
