Do you have any other monitors and/or game boards you can test with? Additional Monitors to confirm that the VGA Convertor isn't the problem and additional boards, in case it isn't...

My first thought looking at the pictures was that you were connected to the VGA IN port, but you said that you've tried both, so I'd be looking to confirm the output from the game board and to confirm that the convertor is actually functioning, beyond that, I guess all that's left is the LCD monitor...

it worked in diff game

cliff,
It worked earlier today in another cabinet, i traded for it today and brought it home and hooked it up , so im missing something... just dont know what, ill definitely put the mon plug on the vga out, and go from there...

I believe it's telling you to PLEASE not install an LCD in your Tapper :p . Sorry... I don't have any experience with those converters, but if you search the forum, you'll find posts from other people having lots of problems w/ them.

MCR games are "picky" about sync. Spy Hunter is notorious for being hard to get cheap monitors to work with. I don't know about Tapper, but it's the same type of system.

Have you tried the game with a real arcade monitor? Are you sure that the video output is working?

Also, remember, these VGA converter kludge things are never going to give you the same good picture a real arcade monitor will. I think you'll be disappointed even if you do get it to work.

You have a Tapper cocktail, right?

If you're planning on keeping this thing for yourself, and want a flat screen, then go for it. But, if you think you might sell it in the future, collectors will see this as putting a gas/electric hybrid 4-banger into a `70 Cuda. Just something to keep in mind...

value

I wasnt too concerned about value on the cocktail.. most people seem to think its woth half of the upright anyway...I probably wouldnt make ita permanent install in case somebody wanted to put a wells back in it someday.

I, for one, don't care about "resale value" when it comes to games. I own games to enjoy them. That said, I definitely wouldn't enjoy trying to play a good game on a crummy LCD screen :D

Put the real arcade monitor back in there, you'll be happier.

The sync from the MCR system appears to produce HBLANK and VBLANK signals, which are not in spec with other game boards sync timings.

I'm working on a Kick boardset and experiencing the same issues with the RGB to VGA converter losing sync.

I'm measuring the H pulse width at 13us, when it should be around 5.4us. And the V pulse width at 1000us instead of 256us. All sync frequencies and timing relationships are the standard 15KHz/60Hz, so it appears to be all about the widths being misinterpreted.

I'm breadboarding a oneshot circuit to see if I can condition the signals to work with the adapter and I'll post the result here.
