Im really lost without www.pinrepair.com! If anyone saved the Bally info for Flash Gordon, please email it to [email protected]! Thanks!!

Anyway, My FG was working fine, then all coils stopped working.
It will recognize the ball is in the return, but it wont shoot the ball out, nor will any pop bumpers or slingshots work.

You can turn the game off then on and it MAY work normally, but they will stop working on a moments notice (but it seems they only stop when the ball goes into the return hole)

Please tell me how to proceed in making repairs!!! I have already checked all fuses (out of the holders) and checked for any bad solder joints. All electrical connectors are in good shape, with no burning. I have 7 total flashes of the LED on the MPU.

Thanks in advance KLOV.

Since the MPU boots, we know that the 43V line from the power supply is OK, so it's not a power issue.

Since the fuses are OK, again, not a supply issue.

Two things:

1) Gently clean the connectors on bothe the solenid driver board and mpu with a very fine grit sandpaper (400 or more) or a pencil eraser.
2) Swap the U10 and U11 PIAS on your MPU and see what happens.

Let me know what you find, we can go from there.

Thanks!

Ill check tonight

Ok I swapped the 10 &11 chip. First time I started the game it just illuminated most of the lights and nothing else happened. Every other time I started a game after that it would flash 6 different lights and continually score 1000 points by itself.

The awesomeness is getting awesomer.
So, where do I go from here?
Thanks!

Hmmmmm....I love when awesomeness gets awesomer. So, correct me if I am wrong, the board is NOT running right now?

Is the MPU giving seven flashes?
Does the game go into proper attract mode?
Have you tried the self test routines?
Did you swap U10 and U11 back to where they were?

We need to dig some more. If you want gto PM to discuss I'll be glad to help.

The game does go into attract mode. It only screws up when a game is started....and yes 7 flashes on the MPU.

I did switch chips back and forth and there were 2 different problems.

I suggest you get yourself some new PIA's and try them first. If you need help with board work/checkout let me know, have been a pinball hobbyist since 1998 and have done a lot of frepair.

Ok thanks.
I did borrow one PIA from my Vector and the problem did not go away in either slot.

Best place to buy a PIA?

I got a hold of the pinrepair.com manuals, and quickly diagnosed the problem.

Apparently the sound board is tied into the coil voltage circuit????

Anyway, I disconnected the sound board and the game worked perfect.
Then I hooked the sound board back up and it continued to work perfect.

Wierd.
