When I turn the machine on, the volume is cranked until I go into the settings menu and reduce it. As long as I do not power off, the volume stays where i set it. Every time I power it off and back on, it's full volume again.

I presume my first step should be to check/change the battery for keep-alive memory. Will do that in the next few days, but is there anything out there that is a common problem causing this that I should check while i am in there?

Thanks, mongoosetoo

Flamin' Finger Battery location

In the continuing saga of the Flamin' Finger, I bought it and brought it home. Works great, fun a$$ game! But it was as I suspected - everything works fine so long as I do not power it off.

To test, I powered up, volume was max. I turned down volume, turned off the ticket dispenser, changed a few other settings and played it for a while. Everything stayed set, until I powered off about two hours later.

When I powered back on, all of my settings went back to default. Presuming I'm dealing with a battery issue, I pulled the back off to have a peek. I took two pictures of the back of the board - I'm sure there are components on the front of the board, but without removing it, I think I see the battery.

Can anyone tell me for sure if what I have circled in the picture is the battery, and if so, how do I figure out the voltage? If possible, I'd like to add a 2032 "watch" battery holder and do away with the non-changeable style.

First things first - is that the battery in the pix?

Thanks.

No... that's a crystal. Is there another board in the cabinet, or is that the only one? From your pics, I don't see anything that looks like a battery... If there's no battery, there could be a serial EEPROM that might be bad or something.

Nope, just the one board. I haven't pulled the board out and looked at the front side yet - hopefully there's a battery there.

Thanks for the info.

Fixed!!! Woohoo!!!

The Flamin' Finger is fixed. Actually stumbled onto it.

I removed the mainboard and didn't notice until I had it removed - turns out, could have accessed it without removal. Besides there's not much of anything on the front of the board other than light bulbs (#161) and the LCD number matrix and LED board. I posted a pic, just because it looks really neat. Anyway, there is no battery on this machine; it stores it's memory on a flash card.

I removed the flash card to look it over and pull a part number. When I put it back onto the mainboard it just started working. Must've been unseated or maybe a bit of oxidation on the pins.

See images. One more thing to note - if you are using this machine for home, there is no FREEPLAY option. It's just going to mount a small button in the coin door lock hole. Also you cannot simply unplug the ticket dispenser - it throws an error and stops the machine. Instead select OFF for the Ticket Emulator in the menu.

Thanks DogP for your idea - it made me start looking closer at eeproms, which led me to the Flash Mem.
