So about a month or two ago I was digging through a local Op's warehouse.. Found a couple WellsGardener boxes that looked new.. Asked him about them and was told they were bought back in 2003-04 from a local distributer that was having a close out sale.. He had bought 10 of these K7203s that were brand new.. Seems as 2 of the 10 came up with no picture, so back into the box they went.. Until I found them..
Talked him into letting me take one home to mess with it, if I had luck with it I'd be back to buy the other one.. Well that's where the fun stopped.. Spent a week or 2 messing with it, researching the web, printing out every spec, manual, how to, I could find..
Now this thing still had the plastic on the screen! So I wasn't going to give up as it's not everyday nos monitors fall in my lap.. So it fires up, but no picture.. No raster, no static on the tube.. But there is neck glow.. Ok, that's weird..B+ is 124v, seems ok..
I go through the troubleshooting guide from wells.. Nada, actually pulled a few componets out to test them as I was getting a false reading.. Then I run into a post from back in 2003, someone mentioned that there were (2) problematic caps on the chassis.. C109 and C113 I think.. So I popped them off and replaced them.. Looked over the whole chassis and reflowed the solder on anything that was questionable..
Fired the thing up.. No picture.. Got annoyed and went to the bathroom.. Forgot I left the thing on, as no Iso is needed so it's just plugged into my bench.. Come back, what do I see? Video!!!!
Plugged it into my Time Pilot and after a few twists on the pots.. I have the most perfect image ever! It's so nice, it looks fake.. Ha! As I haven't had a brand new monitor in one of my games, yet.. So I'm pretty excited.. As last week a GO7 kicked my ass and won't work, plus I have 2 dead red tent monitors I'm having trouble with
But this makes it all better!! Just wanted to share, as it seems like most of the time monitors and me dont work out well.. Heh
