Fixed a Simpsons bowling, question about a part as well.
A coworker of mine said her friend needed help fixing an arcade game, so she came to me. I talked to the guy and he said he bought the game on eBay then took it home and it didn't work anymore. I asked him to check the connections and was going to have him check the voltages but he didn't have a multimeter. So I met up with him tonight, tested the PS and everything was fine there. the game was Simpsons bowling, JAMMA so I hooked up an Ikari warriors to his setup. No video. Turns out the sync wasn't plugged in, swapped pins then BAM! Ikari works.
So I hook up Simpsons bowling, the cd spins and I get this weird jumping on the screen then it's white. Then I turn the game off and back on and I get a black screen. Uh oh. I hook Ikari up again and it works, and I hooked up a 60-1 and it works. So there is a board problem.
The game appears to be a 25" WG in a dynamo cab. The pcb is "mounted" under the monitor. he said when he loaded it into his mini van he heard something fall and it was the board.
I took a look at the board thinking, omg I have no idea as I am not very good with troubleshooting board issues.
I see this transistor in the corner with a heatsink attached and I notice that one of the four legs isn't making contact with the board. So I desolder it clean up the holes and put a small wire on the leg so it went through the pcb.
Put the game back in the cab and it works!
Everything seems to be working great now, however I did notice something else that is damaged. What is this and where can I get replacements?
The skinny black thing by the CPU?
The game is working even with this part being cracked.
