Fix it Felix Jr "arcade version" is almost complete!

Just thought I would let everyone know that a friend of mine has re-created the game as well as another guy that goes by the name Sjaak. So eventually, someday.. in the future.. it will be done for all of us with empty cabs. Please do not ask me who my friend is and if you know who he is please do not ask him for anything, if it will be released or not or anything. We will all find out when the time comes.

Here is what he said...

"I have this game almost entirely reproduced exact to the arcade. It's been over 3 weeks of work , recoding and adding fixing and adding new code. Me and Brian have made 4 trips to Disneyland already to record gameplay video, snapshots, log behaviors and proper level structs for the game and sound effects not online. Sound effects were edited and put right in to the game to replace sounds such as the glass breaking sound, sounds when you press start, hi score screen sounds, sounds between player plays etc..

This is extremely close to the arcade as I can get and it's pretty sweet. Even has the level 39 kill screens, and boot garble/romcheck screens just like the arcade.

Probably over 100 additions and changes have been added to make it arcade perfect. There are so many little things they changed from the online version that you really have to look very closely to catch. Everything from the colors, how fast stuff blinks, colors of certain text, fonts, sounds, brick patterns, building graphics, ralph animations, felix animations, window spacing, window styles, glass on window styles, walking behavior, new objects, attract mode sequence and timings, 2 player support with all the proper interlude screens and player turnover screens, high score screen and input behavior, giant bricks that come after level 4, etc..

I've analyzed every aspect of the game from beginning to end in great detail and have replicated it all.

To top it off I added some features that do not interfere with game such as a custom soft dip screen where you can set your lives, max lives, bonus life amount, coinage settings including true free play, high score management, attract mode settings, default reset etc..

Also added an nvram file to store all your high scores and last play stuff, which can be managed from the dip screen thats mocked up like the DK / DKJR soft dip rom upgrade. Scores behavior is accurate as far as roll over and storage.

Also added were some settings that are normally off that you can turn on such as stuff found only online , on iphone, old versions and prototypes of the game, such as alternate bushes styles, lamposts, real voices from ralph and felix for the "Im gonna wreck it" etc.., flowers, shades etc... all optional and off by default.

I'll put up a video next week."

So yeah, thats great news. Nice to see people creating this game.
Also here are some updates on my cabinet. The original authentic control panel will be done in two days so I will be ready, right now I have my hyperspin version on there... I just created an instruction card, available in my FIFjr dropbox. Check it out.

Here is the link to the forum to follow the progress of Sjaaks work (another guy also creating the game)

Thanks! Yeah my cabinet is going to become a dedicated FIFjr.. no more hyperspin/NES on it.. It will be as close to the real deal as I can get for now. He is also redoing all of the artwork for the cab so it will be exact.

Very cool Rick. Can't wait to see it.

I must say that is pretty sweet. I also saw printed and cut artwork on that link. Will someone be selling the printed artwork so those of us out there without access to industrial printers can get it for our nintendo cabs?

That's great news.
So what hardware will be needed to run the game?
I have been playing the game on my iPad mini and it's not a bad little game.
Can't wait to see this version in play. :)

This is AWESOME! I have a gutted Nintendo cab that I picked up cheap that I plan to turn into a Fix-It-Felix Jr. My friends and their children are all very eager to see that when I told them that I have plans to have one.

I would also love to get printed artwork that will fit on a Nintendo DK cabinet. This along with the game itself is certainly something that I'd be highly interested in.

Please keep up all updated on all the progress.

VERY COOL!

He will probably post video and everything sometime in the next week or so. This goes to show that in a months time a good programmer can create this game and the thought of us having this game in our cabs is starting to finally become a reality. And I apologize if I got everyone's hopes up.. My thread was to prove that this project can and will be done.

Hardware will be a pc. Im guessing even a old p4 can handle this game. I have the printed graphics avaliable.. I offer it cheap and dont make anything from it. Just pm me for info. I also have the art files for anyone who wants to take it to a printer or has a printer.

Ok.. I talked to my buddy who is recreating the game. He will not be sharing it and i dont blame him.. dont want Disney police on his ass. Good news is that another guy is also making the game so all of you with FIFjr cabs will be up and running eventually here. At least we arent sitting ducks. You can watch the progress of my buddies version from the link in my first post. He will probably post video and everything sometime in the next week or so. And I opoligize if I got everyones hopes up.. My thread was to prove that this project can and will be done.

I am confused, I followed the link to arcade controls, it looked like the guy their is taking $25.00 pay pal donations for the game, is this not the same guy? I almost donated but the Pay Pal site was not in English.

The arcade controls guy is the other guy creating the game. He is the one offering the $25 donation and from what I understand he will release the game to whoever donates.

The guy from arcade controls is a nice guy and legit. I think he created something pretty good before too. Not sure when his version will be done.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was not sure if it was the same guy on two different sites or two different guys.
Never built a dedicated MAME machine, guess it's time for a little research. :)

Any chance he would share the gameplay video he created of the real arcade? Because i don't have access to a actual cabinet...

Cool project!

Which arcade versions are these creations based on? I've seen 2 different ones. (Not counting the various non-arcade versions.)

I think your buddy has it backwards. He WILL share the game or the Disney police will be on his ass (and your's).

hopefully someone will eventually crack it and sell the game on pcb,pc,etc.

I'm hoping someone can clone/copy the drive on a real one since it just runs on a PC but these near-exact software clones are about as close as we can get right now. It's shame that Disney and their developers just won't sell us a copy...
