Thought I had this fixed. My Fish Tales decides to reset itself randomly in the middle of games. It can sit by by itself in attract mode and be fine. Plays great for awhile, then resets.

It has to be on the boards. Had the bridge area reworked recently when it wad doing the same thing. They guy that did it for me removed the heat sinks and put them off the boards to allow it to run cooler. Even put in a low voltage fan to help exhust heat. But here it is again, doing the same thing.

Anyone run into this and what is the fix (if anyone tells me to use a multi-meter, please spell out what I'm checking and the setting for the meter, I'm technically challenged!)?

Did the tech replace the associated caps on the board? Resets are typically a drop in the +5 rail.

Also, open the metal box inside the cabinet (where power comes in) and you should see a round disc (thermistor). Ensure it's attached and if so run a wire from leg to leg and see if the resets occur.

Double check to see if when you hit both flippers it suddenly shits down. That tends to make you think its random but in reality it happens when you do this. If it is I believe you might have a bad bridge rectifier.

Br2 + Cap C4 (C5) + repin J101 (J129)...add the jumper wire for insurance

Fixes it every time (at least the 5 I've done)

OK, many thanks to MonsterBash's translation and directions. I'll be finding the proper parts and jumping into this asap. Suggestion was to find a Cliffy guide however I've read postes where they've all been taken down. I've searched to no avail.

If it doesn't work, my next post will be "Parting out a Fish Tales!"

Yeah.. I'm a moron...that would be 'Clay's' guide. I think I saw it listed here for download somewhere.

Edit: Just saw the one posted here was taken down...

The pinwiki link I posted above has all of the info in it, and is an improved version of the WPC reset section in the old guide. At least as far as dealing with game resets, everything you need to know is in there.
