I have a few Sanyo's in different stages of decay. 1 has a bad fly, 1 has a marginal tube, another tube is absolute junk etc. I saw an ad on CL for an older 19" tv for 5 bucks and thought what the hell.

I got it home and opened it up and score!, it had the same neck connector as the sanyo. I pulled it from the tv, marked where the rings were and removed the ring/yoke assy. I then placed the sanyo yoke off the bad tube on the new tube. I had to cut loose the rings on the new tube from the yoke since they were 1 piece. Put it all back together and fired it up and it looks GREAT!! Now my lower monitor for my Playchoice will look excellent on any game.

All in all it was alot easier than I thought it would be.

Post the brand and model # of the TV here for others to use as a basis for what is a good compatible TV for tube-swapping...

Yes please post the info. I am in need of a good tube. Right now I am looking for TVs that have the fake woodgrain on them.

I found some old 19" tvs at a VFW, and they didn't want to part with them.

What's with the Hitachi TV having some slight game screen burn? You can see where the scores are and the "game over" in the center. Had to be used in a game previously so may not be the factory tube used for this model TV.

:D I was wondering the same thing about the screen burn.

my PC-10's kinda rough on the lower monitor too.. but I don't let it bother me. Nintendo had the right idea with that tinted glass!

good job.

Last time I did a tube swap I put the old tube back in the tv and hooked it up. The funny thing is the tv looked horrible afterwords, while the arcade monitor looked great.

nice!!! congrats!!!! Its kind of luck.. some go easy as hell, some are a bieotch, but imho its worth the work because when your done that monitors literally like new...

That's the old monitor back in the TV. I never hooked it back up just, just reinstalled it and cut the cord so it can't be plugged in. I will take it to a recycler tomorrow. - Barry

My lower monitor was OK, but the guns are a little week so the colors aren't vibrant. I took the worst tube I had and put it back in the TV, and put the tube in my PC-10. My upper screen has alot of burn, but since it's the menu, it's of no concern. I'm very happy how it turned out. - Barry

I got a hold of a couple more 19" tv's. One may work for a sanyo and the other for a sharp. I'm going to do the swap Saturday most likely. I've found a local TV recycler who will let me take 19" tv's for free and swap tubes and return them for recycling. Hopefully I'll find more donors - Barry

Next time you do a swap could you show some pics of how it's done? It would really help me and give me more confidence in attempting this.

No problem. I was easy so either I got lucky, or it's easy. I'm going to be doing 2 or 3 in the next few days so I'll post process pics.

It's nice to have a new looking monitor, so I hope I can get enough tubes to do them all. - Barry

Tried 2 more tv's tonight. The first I couldn't get the colors good at all. 1 side of the screen looked good, but not the other. The second I opened up and although the model plate on the back of the tv listed it as a 19", it was a 20", so no go tonight. - Barry

lol, have we forgotten about console gaming systems on tvs? :p (even though it's vertical, lol)

Hehe. Speaking of which, I did once see a set in a thrift store several years ago with obvious computer burn-in - looked like from a Commodore 64 or similar. There was a fuzzy burnt rectangle on most of the screen where the Commodore's text area would be. Too bad too, it was a nice Zenith hybrid from the early 70's. (I collect vacuum tube type TV sets too...).
