Gary Stern gave away the First Tron Pinball machine to an 18 year old kid at the NW Pinball and Game Room Show. This young man had $10 and went in on a raffle ticket with his girlfriend. She put up the other $10, so that he could buy the winning $20 raffle ticket.

hopefully this will lead to a lasting interest in pins and another collector. We can always use more from the younger generation.

Wow, that is really cool.

Well hopfully if he isn't into the hobby, winning this gets him into it.

So he can become hopelessly addicted just like the rest of us. :001_sbiggrin:

Very cool that will be a great memory that he will always remember. Great show you guys put on Dokert it was worth the long trip from Canada! Thx!

Good point. For an 18 year old kid, it might be hard to ignore a potential $4000 pay day by doing that.

Hell, if I was in attendance at that raffle, I would've offered him $3k on the spot for it (assuming I had that much cash to spare). But he would've taken it.

The raffel was $20ea and only 250 entries that sold out in the first 4 hours.... I was too late to enter myself... :(

He is going to have to learn how to adjust the left sling shot switch.... was going off at the slightest tap on the game....

Good game, glad it went to someone who will not sell it to make a buck and actually enjoy it!

Was a fun game to play, and one I played the most of at the show other than Theater of Magic....

I'm pretty sure there were only 250 tickets.
I bought 5

Yes, there were 250 tickets sold for $20 a piece, total $5000. Myself, Dokert, and a few other vid guys talked the pin guys down, they wanted to sell 100 tickets at $50 a piece. We felt that the $20 price point was better for everyone involved.

By the way we intend to raffle off a new pin again at next years show, and this one may not be made by Stern...

They sold out so fast we should do two or three next year (one per day?) I'm still disappointed my $20 didn't turn into a pinball machine.

Well, Tron was special. It doesn't officially get released until this coming Friday so you were getting the first machine. If this were an already released machine, say Iron Man or The Rolling Stones, it would not have likely sold out so quickly. Also, the show did buy the machine, but as a special deal that the seller will not liely extend to two or three machines a year since it offers them no additional return.

Good points. Maybe one stern, and one non-stern next year?

We didn't get the machine directly from Stern, we just pressured him to send the first US destined machine to our local distributor. The distributor is the one we got the discount from.

We tried two pins last year, if you remember. They were not new pins, and the titles were not exactly 'A' list machines, but at $20 a ticket I think we only brought in around $1500 total.

Honestly, I think we would be better served to turn this raffle into a money making endeavor and sell a higher number of $20 tickets. This way the show profits from the raffle, the distributor is still happy, and the winner is still happy.
