Riptor hooked me up with a pacman power supply that he used to use to test his pac boards.

I also have a new 13 inch monitor and I need a little help getting my rig/monitor up and running.

Here are some shots of some of the stuff.

http://mrcade.com/test_rig/

Riptor does not have an iso on the pac p/s and the wires are a little hacked up but he said it works.

I have noticed that the plug for the monitor looks backwards for this little monitor. So I just want to check first before I try to power this on and toast something.

My goal is to take that power supply and put it in a small box. Then I have another project box to put a joy stick in with p1, p2 and coin slot action.

So for today the monitor will only be used for a pac or mspac setup. I will need to do the same for williams down the line. So any mods I need to do for the monitor need to be thought of ahead of time.

Can any of you guys help me out with the wiring today?

Here is the thread that I bought the monitor from.

And here is the ebay listing.

According to the ebay listing my monitor is a

Can anyone tell me if the (Pin Out) on this monitor is backwards for the pac wiring harness or is it worse than that?

If I turn the plug backwards the red green a blue line up perfect.

What I am worried about is the other three wires. It's not that big of a deal to cut the wires and reverse them but is that all I need to do? Are the black yellow and white wires correct if I reverse them?

Also the monitor has it own plug. What should that be plugged into the wall or should I cut the power plug off and wire it in somewhere else?

I really do not want to fry this thing... That's why I am checking first.

Talking to yourself again? :)

lol Barry, I wish I could get this issue sorted...

I thought this was going to be an easy question on the monitor???

Heck I still have others about the darn harness and hooking in a speaker.

I don't have all of the answers but this may help.

1) That looks like a modern monitor, it will plug directly into the wall. No isolation transformer required.

2) Most of these derive from a chassis design hacked out in China 10 years ago (the Pentranics derive from the same design).

3) The video plug may work as is, if it is a negative synch video signal.

4) Positive synch video (i.e. Williams may be problematic). I was never able to get a Pentranics chassis to synch to Williams successfully. JAMMA boards (which are negative synch) work like a champ.

5) You may need to swap the synch wires depending on which is which. A pin extractor will do it quite easily, I have also used a flat bladed jeweler's screwdriver with a little practice.

I agree with yellowdog.

You should be able to plug the video right in and it should just work...

All you would need is some way to get video into the harness. which boards are you going to test first? (that will help to know)

Man just give me a call on the phone with questions like these and I can get you staight.
There wasnt an iso on that? I might have used it for my bench monitor, cant remember.

Yep correct Riptor no iso...

I just cut the damn plug and reversed the wires. The monitor fired right up and looked awesome.

Ken Layton had a great idea. He suggested to unsolder the monitor plug and flip it. Then solder it back down. That way no matter what rig I am using it will always be correct. No more butcher jobs.

Now back on track one issues solved. Thanks guys!
___________

Now I need to make a controller/joystick. I went to radio shack and they had some decent project boxes. I bought everyone they had in stock so I would have the right box for this controller.

Anyway here is a link to the boxes

I have in hand

One #270-1807

One #270-1805

I also bought two types of switches. but I am not sure if they would be the correct ones to use.

Would these kind of switches work for p1 & p2 and so forth? Which ones should I use if they are the correct ones open or closed?
__________

I bought 4 of these panel mount fuse holders.

Catalog #270-364

I also bought two of these style fuse holders as well.

Catalog #270-367

How about these two different style fuse holders. Would this be ok for a mspac/pac man power supply?

You need normally open switches. I wouldnt use the ones you have there, they are crap. Radio shack sells some others that are nice and hold up well. I will send you a picture of my setup so you can see the switches I used.
You will also want either a spst toggle or slide switch if you want for test mode.

Cool thanks man. I sent you login details check your email.

Well what kind of switches should I buy? Got a link to any of them?

What about the fuse holders will they work or is there better.

I still have all my receipts so taking this stuff back is not a big deal.

Man can I switch out the transformer for something a little shorter? The project boxes are only three inches tall. The transformer is a hair taller and wont fit in the shack boxes.

Do you have any shorter transformers?

I dont have anything here. Bob Roberts sells new iso's that are alot smaller for about 12 bucks. My pac rig doesnt have an iso in it, its on my bench monitor. My jamma box does and I used the BR one so it would fit in the box.

Here's a pic of my controller box. I use the same box on all my rigs.

I dont need an iso transformer my monitor has that built it. I need the other one for the power supply.

So school me here a little...

I only have one transformer on the mspac power supply. One is missing and my rig works fine. So would they both be considered iso's?

Is one step up and the other step down? I really want to understand this.

Can you explain a little about the pac supplys and what is needed and what is not.

Are they the same?
