Hey everybody,

I've got a Romstar 1942 in an original Pacman cabinet. I've taken apart the control panel because I'd like to put some new matching vinyl graphics on it. The problem is that if I was to do that then I'd need to remove the original graphics off of the metal. There is chips in the originals edges etc so if I lay the vinyl over it then it will look choppy which I don't want. At the same time I'm not keen on ripping original graphics off of an old game completely destroying them which I might want to reference some day or if I sell the game the original graphics (regardless of condition as they aren't that bad) might be wanted by someone else.

So, I found this which "looks" almost identical to my control panel but it's for "Ms" pacman rather then pacman:

I've read that one of the differences is that pacman has the controls etc on a piece of wood attached and ms pacman doesn't. My 1942 does have the controls on a block of wood. But would that wood fit into this metal for the ms pacman?

Or if that's not really a good option do you have any advice for what you do to smooth old chipped graphics if you're going to wrap them with vinyl or something? Or am I being over paranoid and should just strip the original graphics and be done with it?

Also, the plexi glass that was laid over it is pretty scratched up. Where would I go to get a new piece of plexi or glass and with the right holes drilled? I know a "glass shop" might be obvious but I didn't know if there is some place that specializes in gamer stuff and if there is a reason to go plexi vs glass etc?

Thanks!

Welcome!

If it were my game I wouldn't worry too much about the original 1942 cpo. Fully remove it and clean the panel before applying the new stuff. Lots of tutorials here and around the web on this.
